Braxton hicks in 3+ pregnancies

This is baby 3, all the way through since about 10 weeks I’ve had Braxton hicks. The midwife said they can be more intense in subsequent pregnancies. However this baby is currently breech, I am 36 weeks on Tuesday, and will see the midwife who will refer for a scan if she’s still breech and I’ll elect for a section. The last few nights I’ve had really regular Braxton hicks every 2-3 minutes, super tight but not painful at all. I have spd quite badly too which makes it hard to distinguish between back/tummy/hip pain. I’m super stressed and terrified of having an unplanned vaginal breech birth. Has anyone else had intense Braxton hicks in pregnancy that don’t lead to anything? Suppose I’m just looking for comfort.

I forgot to say they do go off, I fall asleep and when I wake up they’ve gone unless I have a full bladder which has been the number one reason for bh in this pregnancy. I get them on and off during the day, but nothing regular. They’re only really intense and regular come this time of night.

I gave birth 4 weeks ago and 3rd pregnancy too i had very very strong braxton hicks and very tight too that would lead too nothing the same as you if i would go to sleep i would wake up to nothing i think because is your 3rd pregnancy baby dont turn head down until birth really starts and when my birth started i thourt it would be straight forward as iys my 3rd baby but i had on and off contractions for 3 days i was i was in labour for 3 days it was very painfull i was also 40+6 days overdue i dont think theres nothong to worry about as baby can turn until birth actually starts and i also had very strong braxton hicks and frequently too.hope you all the best and a safe delivery.xx

Yes! Had braxton hicks with both of mine. So strong and regular at times and could be quite uncomfortable. I called the assessment unit a few times for reassurance and once went in for a VE to see if anything was happening - nothing. Second time round I knew what to expect and could distinguish from real labour. They always told me it was just my body "getting ready". I had it from around 32 weeks onwards. Both were born naturally around 40 weeks.

Also had spd with my second - so unpleasant and hard to rest when you have others to look after. Hope it resolves quickly after birth for you.

Thank you both! I think because I’ve had fast labours in the past they won’t let me possibly wait to birth they’ll see me and offer an ecv or section. I’m going to opt for the section. I am just terrified of having the baby vaginal breech and the BH are really stressing me out. On top of the spd and two other small kids I am at breaking point to be honest and spending a lot of time in tears.

I've also had very quick labours. Waking up in morning to waters leaking with second and had him in my arms two hours later. I think all the braxton hicks help. I'm not sure if this is helpful at all but my sister is a newly qualified midwife and in the short time she has been a midwife she has seen a few successful vaginal breech deliveries on birth centre. I know it's not your plan, but it's not impossible, just incase you were to go in to labour early. Good luck with everything. X

I've been having them since first trimester and am now 20 weeks. I also have spd. I really don't think it's anything to worry about. I never felt them in my previous pregnancies so did find it a bit disconcerting!
