Dentist during pregnancy

This might be a silly question, but what do you do if you are registered with a private dentist and get pregnant? Do you have to register with an NHS dentist to qualify for free dental treatment? Or is it best to just stick with my usual private dentist?

Thanks in advance for any help

Ask your dental surgery

I don’t know for sure but I assume you would have to register with an NHS one. Going off an experience with a private drs (had to pay for the prescription because it was not nhs) but ask your private dentist they may accept the form but doubt it!

Yes, you would have to register with a NHS dentist to get free treatment. If you're in anything like my area though, there are no NHS dentists taking on new patients anyway, so a moot point.

Private patients continue paying unfortunately. You will need to get on an NHS dentist waiting list to qualify for the free treatment, the lists are often very lengthy so good luck with that. In the long run getting in with the NHS dentists is a good idea.

I have an NHS dentist. They have been really good adding new baby(ies) on to their NHS patients list after birth without having to go on a waiting list.

I got our newborn added on at a month old, all our other children had their 1st checkups by a year old.

I went in for my routine check up, mentioned I was pregnant and they switched me from private to NHS.

I work in a private dentist. You wouldn’t get treatment for free so would need to go on an NHS dentist waiting list, which honestly at the minute, by the time you’re seen, you’re exception would probably be up!
You’re honestly best staying where you are, dental places are like gold dust at the moment.

Thanks very much everyone for your help. I love my dentist so wouldn't want to move anyway, but wasn't sure how it all worked. A friend of mine was surprised I was paying for the dentist when I could get it for free, but I don't really mind to be honest
