Second bump a LOT smaller than first

Hi all,

I am pregnant for the second time with another girl (DD is now 3) and I was looking at photos of when I was pregnant last time at the same gestation (20 weeks) and realised my bump is a lot smaller this time. I barely look pregnant at all now - you wouldn't be able to tell really. Whereas with her I had a definite bump and was very clearly pregnant.

Has anyone experienced this? I'm really worried that it means the baby isn't growing properly. My anomaly scan isn't until next week, and I'm just really shocked at the difference.

Weight-wise I'm slightly heavier than I was in the last pregnancy, but still a size 10, so I think I should definitely be showing.

Any stories gratefully received, thank youSmile

I was smaller on my second pregnancy too (both girls). For me I was more careful with what I was eating the second time.

I'm having my second girl too and much smaller this time, I'm 32 weeks and only a pound over my pre pregnancy weight although started off a stone heavier. I was really worried at first as lost half a stone in first trimester but measured bang on average for both scans and I'm now measuring 2 weeks ahead!

Same, smaller bump with second but everything measuring fine. Midwife says the size of the bump and even size of the baby is really not important until 24 weeks, as up until then they are just creating all the building blocks and it's 24 to 40 weeks that they then grow. Some people hardly show throughout their pregnancy, you can't tell anything from the size of the bump!

My first was fairly average size, second was enormous due to extra water and a 9lb baby! Third was smallest of all. You could be smaller as you're potentially busier with a little one already. There's no rhyme or reason really!

Could be the position of the baby or the amount of waters rather than baby’s size? They will check everything out when you have your scan so try not to worry x

The position of the baby, the placenta and the volume of fluid all play a huge role in the size and shape of your bump so try not to worry.
I was enormous with my first (gained 25 kg over the pregnancy!) so fully expected to be the size of an elephant this time round but I've only gained 4kg this time (probably because I was a bit overweight to start with, had HG for 20 weeks and now am on a controlled diet because of gestational diabetes) but baby is still growing fine.
Hope your mind is put at ease after your scan x

My first was a boy bump grew as I expected it too, could easily twll by 20 weeks I was expecting and was quite large by 40 weeks. Second was a girl and only realy had a bump that you could tell was a pregnancy bump at about 35 weeks, she was born at 6.9pound, first was born at 8.7, she's 11 months now and 18.15 pounds

I'm pregnant with DC3 - this time a girl after two boys though. I'm 18 weeks and definitely much smaller than I was with DC2 at this stage. It's a daily worry! I had a private scan 2 weeks ago to find out the sex and baby measuring bang on with dates. I also have an anterior placenta this time, no idea if that makes a difference? From what I've been googling about it I'm sure everything will be just fine and you'll get done reassurance at your scan
