Nappies are all different?!

I've just opened a pack of nappies to pack in my hospital bag- they looked too small. Check the size and they're newborn 1 okay.

Then I open 2 other brands SAME "newborn 1". SAME WEIGHT ect

They are SOOOOOO different in size!!!

Left- pampers
Middle- Asda
Right- Aldi

I was going to take Aldi but now I'm unsure as they are all soooooo different for being the "same size"?!

Why aren't they the same? ConfusedConfused

Did they all have the same weights on?

Mommabear20 · 13/10/2021 14:54

What I did was decided on a brand I wanted to use and took about 10 size 0 and 5-10 size 1. Or if you want to use what you've got, take 10 off each of the smallest and medium ones. Good luck!

Alfxn · 13/10/2021 14:55

The Aldi number 1's have a different weight range to a pampers number 1's AFAIK.

SylvanasWindrunner · 13/10/2021 14:56

Welcome to the world of babies! It's the same with clothes. You learn which retailers have longer clothes in the body, longer legs, etc. There's variance in size and fit like there's variance in baby size, so with nappies you tend to just see what ones fit best and go with those. Just try them and see!

Flickeringgreenlight · 13/10/2021 15:00

Find a brand and stick with it and definitely go by weight range. Not sure on Asda & Aldi but the pampers we use have been consistently right for our toddler from day one, perfect fit all around at all stages.

I did check but on all 3 bags they were all the same weight

@SylvanasWindrunner - I didn't actually think of that! I've made observations before on how I am different sizes in every different shop- so frustrating that now I have to deal with it in nappies too Hmm

@Flickeringgreenlight that's what I was going to do after I worked out what ones I liked best for baby. Pampers were a freebie in my boots pregnancy packs- was always planning on using Aldi or Asdas

We were given a huge pile of pampers newborn so used those to start with but quickly started using aldi nappies due to value for money. You do learn what suits your baby's shape but just try a few out to start with, newborns go through a lot.

ALittleBitWorrriedNow · 13/10/2021 22:22

Start with the smallest ones then work your way up. Newborns grow so quickly your bubba could be out of the first size before you blink!

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 13/10/2021 22:24

Yeah, thems the breaks.
My DD 22m still fits in her 9-12m shorts, but is in 2-3 pyjamas. She had a frugi 6-12m long sleeved vest that was MASSIVE, more 12-18m

Just don't trust the labels 🤣 I literally laid then on top of each other and sorted by size, ignoring the labels

😃
Also don't fret, they're not in them for long, and by the time they're a year old, you'll know which brands etc fit best

sarah13xx · 13/10/2021 23:23

I used pampers for size 1 and 2 while he was really tiny then moved to aldi size 2 (and now 3 but the premium version as the normal version doesn’t have the wetness indicator after size 2). I worked out aldi nappies were 3p each whereas Pampers were 11p. It makes a big difference when you’re changing them so often

I've always said I'd probably use Aldi. I've got the premium brand too. I just can't believe how expensive pampers are compared to other shops- when actually cheaper ones tend to be better. I've only got some pampers as they came in the boots free pregnancy packs so May as well use them. But won't be using them after free ones are done

Honestly Aldi all the way op xx

olivehater · 13/10/2021 23:31

After three kids I have decided that it’s pampers all the way for newborn. Further down the line Sainsbury’s are the best in terms of value and holding stuff ( wish I had worked that out on my first). Aldi ok but I was never a massive fan, always seemed to get more leaks.

Leaks and rash were what we got from the Aldi ones. Wish it worked out for us as pampers is soooo expensive and I'd gladly not having to pay for them 😩
EdithGrantham · 14/10/2021 08:25

I got given some Pampers ones but they are scented (why!?! It doesn't help cover the smell of poo!) and her skin was bright red when I did the first change so they were donated on. Aldi are the best I've found so far.

Lemongrass9 · 14/10/2021 08:45

It is a bit of trial and error really…although I do sort of agree with picking a brand and sticking with it you may have to change around a little.

My baby is now 5 weeks and when I was pregnant I was given pampers and Aldi and I purchased boots and Tesco. All size 1.

Pampers were way too big until about 3 weeks old so used the others, boots and Tesco would leak within about 30mins as my little boy has quite skinny legs. So we thought Aldi were the winners.

At 3/4 weeks I tried the boots and Tesco again and they were fine, as my DS had put on a little weight so we didn’t have the same issue. However, now that we are getting some longer sleeps at night (generally one 5hr sleep and then a 3-4hr sleep) the only ones that don’t leak at night are pampers.

We did prefer the Aldi premium for comfort but currently size 1 is too small and size 2 is too big, but Aldi normal fits fine so we are currently using normal Aldi nappies (size 1) for daytime where nappy gets changed more regularly and pampers for night time (also size 1).

Basically a long post to say it’s a minefield and you may have to swap and change as they grow in the early weeks. Just wanted to let you know what we found in case you had similar issues when your little one arrives.

Ariela · 14/10/2021 09:07

Just use reusable ones. We use terry squares and muslins on a newborn, with nature Babies wraps over the top. Never got leaks, let alone those poonami up the back that everyone moans about (so I steadfastly maintain less washing overall) and the beauty is you just adjust the fit or fold as baby grows, no need to worry about size.
I recommend finding a retailer near you to explain , or a nappy library.
