Cervical Cerclage

Is anyone else having / has anyone else had a cervical cerclage placed?

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and will need a cerclage at around 13 weeks as I have a very short cervix following surgery for cervical cancer a few years ago. Thankfully it was caught early and after have a cone shape cut out of my cervix all cancerous cells were removed.

I have an appointment in London next week and then should be having the procedure a couple of weeks later, after my first (12 week scan (no date for that yet)) as they need to ensure the pregnancy is viable before stitching me up.

Im really nervous about it as I will need to have an epidural which im not looking forward to one bit!

Would be great to talk to anyone who is going through or has gone through similar.

Hi

I'm also 9 weeks and will be having a cervical cerclage at around 12 weeks - currently booked in for 1st November. This will be my second cerclage. My first pregnancy failed at 20 weeks so it was decided I would need the stitch in subsequent pregnancies. I had my daughter in 2015 after a cerclage at 12 weeks. Honestly, it was fine. I was v worried about complications, but there were none and I had a lot of follow up scans to check cervical length and the baby which were always fine. Stitch was removed at 36 weeks and I went into labour naturally at 39 weeks.

Interesting that you're having an epidural, my last was done under general anesthetic, and to be honest I'm hoping this one will be the same! Happy to chat about it or answer any questions, I know what a scary time this is for you.

Hi had a stitch fitted at 13+4 after I had my first baby at 28 weeks, it wasn't an easy pregnancy but made it to 39+1 after stitch was removed at 36+4, he's now a healthy 6 month old

The thought of it is worse then the opp, quick spinal (took the consultant about 5 mins) numb from waist down, you can feel pain just pressure. Was in theatre for about an hr.
Handy hint leave snacks /drink and I pad up on the chair or table so you can reach it, as you tend to get dumped back on the ward and your legs won't be your i own for a good few hrs and I wanted those chocolate fingers lol
Happy to answer any questions
Also have a look at joining incompetent cervix uk - pregnancy related on fb it's a great support page full of lady's that have gone or are going through the same thing x

@Gingerella36 thank you for your reply and I'm so sorry for your previous loss. I hope your procedure goes well and is a success. I'm waiting for the date of mine but should be early November. I would much prefer to be put under general anaesthetic but I don't think that's an option (not sure why), but I'm
Sure they know what they are doing. Let me know how you get on x
