Different EDD between scans

Hi,

I was just hoping to get your experiences with dates being different between scans.

I had an early scan because of bleeding at what I thought was 6 weeks going by my period dates but on this scan I was 5+5 and they could only see gestational sac and yolk sac, which was fine as it was so early but they said I didn’t need seeing again until 12 weeks.

I booked a scan at what I thought I would be 8+1 going by the scan dates but on this scan they could see baby and a heartbeat but estimated I was between 7+1-7+5 given and average of 7+3 which means it could be a week different.

I suppose because of my bleeding I have been concerned and paranoid something is going to happen and therefore I’m concerned with the dates being out possibly by a week.
I know with the scans being very early it must be hard to do the measurements but I’m just worried I’ll go to my 12 week scan and the baby will have stopped growing - I know this can happen regardless but I would appreciate any of your experiences with dates being different and the outcome.

Thanks in advance x

Pretty typical. EDDs jump around all the time until 12 weeks when they set it properly. even then if you move hospitals they'll move it

Research has shown that the best time to calculate an edd is between 11 and 14 weeks. Before this and after this is less reliable. So you'll get your proper edd at your NHS scan then and that one will be the one they use.

Many nhs trusts won’t change the dd unless you’re 2 weeks or more out.

The measurements at this stage are so tiny- measuring millimetres on a fuzzy screen like that is never going to be accurate.

Your dd is plus or minus 2 weeks anyway, so a few days either way really doesn’t matter.

Thanks for your replies I thought this would be the case but it’s reassuring to have it confirmed, I know your classed as full term from 37 weeks anyway so there is quite a large window like I said I think I’m just paranoid at the moment. Thanks again ladies x
