Newborn sleeping arrangements

I'm trying to work out what we need for the baby to sleep in and am totally overwhelmed and confused by all the different options! We've been given a couple of cots so longer term plan to have one upstairs and one downstairs (we have a big dog so keen for the baby to sleep downstairs somewhere he can't lick it!) But from what I've read newborns are unlikely to feel comfortable in a cot straight away, but then I wondered if I could block off part of it to make it smaller (with wood or something)?

Another option was thinking for the start, would the stokke tripp trapp newborn bit be okay for during the day downstairs (I think it's essentially the same as a bouncer?) , then a crib thing next to the bed for night? Any recommendations for the next to bed type things? Our bedroom isn't huge so I'm worried we might walk into it at night and knock it over!

Thank you in advance! I thought figuring out the difference between all the baby clothes was hard enough Grin

Our baby has been in cots from day 1 home, travel cot downstairs (we have a big dog too) and cot-bed upstairs. She was fine in travel cot sleeping well but at night wanted holding more so slept on me a lot. Now 9wk and sleeps up to 8hrs in the cot-bed at night. We did the same with all but eldest, she had moses basket before cot but really struggled with the transition and spent more time in our bed than her cot-bed at night.

A full size cot can feel a little overwhelming and frightening for a newborn, but you could try something like a cocoonababy within the cot.

My baby is nearly 6 weeks old and we have a Moses basket on a stand downstairs and a tutti bambini cozee bedside crib for upstairs. Then a film size cot in the nursery ready for when he eventually goes into his own room.

My babies actually slept better in the full size cot/ travel cot and the moses basket was useless - mine all threw their arms out as they fell asleep, hit the sides and startled themselves awake in the moses basket. So it was essentially relegated to a basket to hold muslins and nappies... We did have an old moses basket which was pushed on us as a sentimental heirloom though Confused some moden ones are bigger.

Anyway it seemed to make no difference to my babies - two slept and one didn't, regardless of where (aside from on a parent, which 99% of babies prefer).

Thanks for the replies! Seems like I can just stick to the cots for now and if I really feel like I need something smaller just get one at the time. I suppose I have the pram bassinet as well, although it's really heavy!

We had a mose basket up and downstairs (one basket that we moved, not two). Used a travel cot a couple of times at 2 weeks. Moved into a cotbed at 4 weeks (in his room, we have enough room for his cot and a bed for me). He never had a problem.

Would just add that the Tripp trapp newborn seat probably no good for more than an accidental nap as I think babies are ideally supposed to be led flat. They’re also strapped in so won’t be able to wriggle and quite high so you wouldn’t want to leave them unattended. Cot downstairs sounds a better bet. I found putting a hot water bottle on whatever surface I wanted the baby to sleep on for a while beforehand (removing when baby is in obviously) helped them to sleep as it felt less of a shock to go somewhere warm.
