School covid cases, 3 weeks until c section

My 2 dds secondary school have been put on amber alert. There is no communication around the amount of cases but most classes are half full and the head is having to teach due to staff cases.

I’m due to have the baby wc 1st November. They have this week, next week and then half term.

I’m considering keeping them home next week (with everything crossed they avoid it this week) I feel like their sitting ducks right now 😩 I’m double jabbed but have been ill with the non covid virus and it hasn’t been pleasant.

Wwyd?

I’d agree! I’m a teacher (off on mat leave) but I haven’t taken the baby in to my school to visit because cases are so high. The fact the class doesn’t have to isolate now means there’s multiple cases in every class and if there’s a positive child in a class usually the teacher has it too. My friend had 9 positive children in her class. She kept taking lateral flows, all of which came back negative but she just thought there was no way she couldn’t have caught it so went for a PCR. Sure enough she was positive too! For the small amount of time they’ll be off I would do it

That’s quite scary. I’m testing my girls everyday with lfts. That’s been my reassurance. Maybe I’ll keep them home on Friday and take them for a pcr.

It’s stories of a child having it and then the parent a week or two later that really worry me. I wish they’d kept bubbles but I don’t think any school would have been open for the first week!

Thank goodness you’re on mat leave x

If it was me, then for the good of my family I'd be keeping them at home. I realise some may see that as OTT, but if you want the children to be able to see you after birth and meet their new sibling and bond with them, everyone needs to try and keep covid away. I know school is important, but you'll never get back those first few days with a newborn.

Thank you. I would be more concerned if I felt they were getting a full education at the moment. My eldest had one lesson with no teacher and no explanation, a zoom geography lesson with the teacher from home, copying from science books and the head teaching drama!

I honestly think they were better being home schooled via zoom and I thought that was a load of rubbish at the time! My youngests cat tests have now been cancelled. It’s really worrying how this will effect them all later on.

Argh it's so frustrating the lack of communication!!!

My daughters class had cases (which we were not told about) and now my daughter has COVID!!! Luckily I'm not due anytime soon - I am only 13 weeks.

I 1000% will be keeping my daughter off school if cases are still high nearer the time I'm due. xx

What's your hospital policy on visitors - if your DH is positive will you have to give birth on your own? For that reason alone I'd keep them at home.
