Wedding abroad at 34 weeks?

Very dear friend is getting married in Spain, and it has been postponed from this year due to you know what.

I have just found out I’m pregnant and if all goes well I will be 34 weeks by then.

Is it realistic to think I will be able to go? My first pregnancy with DD was low risk but I guess it depends if this one will be too? Any experiences/thoughts welcome xx

I flew London-Dubai around 29-30 weeks and was spectacularly uncomfortable stuck in the plane seat, to the point I started to worry something was wrong as I had twinges and cramps springing up everywhere.

It came as quite a shock as I was fit and active and had had no qualms about being well enough for the trip.

I flew this weekend from the South of England to Scotland for my brother's wedding at 33+2 - I was comfortable doing this as I've had a straightforward pregnancy so far, the airline was happy to let me fly until 35 weeks without a note, and the flight was only an hour total (and this is a first baby).

The thing that would give me pause in your position is not so much the travelling (although it depends how long the flight is) but what would happen if you went into labour or otherwise needed care once you arrived. I lived in the city we were visiting for years, have lots of friends and family there and would have been comfortable staying there for a period of time if needed. Crucially, I would also have remained under NHS care so no insurance issues to cause headaches or worse. This second part is the bit that would make me err on the side of not going in your case.

Omg @boymum88 what a shock that must of been. Glad you were both safe and well but that must of been so stressful.

Yes @queenatom I think it’s different when you’ve still got the NHS at hand and you have people around you.

I think the realisation is hitting that it’s not going to happen. Obviously need to see how this pregnancy goes as it is still early days but I don’t think it’s feasible.

I read about a woman who went into labour at 28 weeks onboard a plane and they had to emergency land the plane due to the pressure on board, which would have been very dangerous for the baby to come out into. Luckily there was a midwife onboard who had to stop her pushing, and protected her on landing as she couldn't sit in her seat. She thankfully had insurance too otherwise she would have had to crowd fund the costs to get home etc. I agree with everyone else and would stay at home to be safe

There’s no way I’d consider travelling abroad at 34 weeks. It might be fine, but I’d spend all the time worrying. And if you had your baby early, it could be massively stressful and expensive.

I wouldn’t. I had a low-risk trouble free pregnancy but still had to go in once (around that time) for reduced movements.
Also with covid, could be short notice travel restrictions, you could be stuck there.
