Low Lying Placenta

As per the title, if you had one, did yours move? If it did, when?

I was told at my gender scan at 16 weeks mine was low, confirmed again at 20 week anomaly scan, asked was it placenta praevia and the sonographer said no it was just low lying. I then took a bleed at 24 weeks and was scanned the doctor said I had placenta praevia and admitted me as she wasn't happy letting me go home due to my placenta. I was then rescanned at 28 weeks and it still hadn't moved. Being scanned again at 32 weeks to check it.

Is there a difference in a low lying placenta and placenta praevia? Google has conflicting answers. Just wondering if it hadn't moved by 28 weeks is it likely to have shifted by 32? My placenta is also anterior and I never feel baby move on the lower left side which is where it is. Would this indicate it hasn't moved?

Mine didn’t move.
I had a bleed at 35ish weeks and ended up having to stay in hospital for a couple of weeks before my section just in case.

It was all absolutely fine just really bloody dull. I loved every second of my planned section though.

I think low lying placenta is if it is near the cervix, and placenta previa would be if it was covering or partially covering the cervix.

Mine was more partial placenta previa IIRC

I may be wrong but I think placenta previa is where it blocks the ‘exit’...whereas low lying is it just partially blocks it or is near or it. I have a scan on weds (32 weeks pregnant) to see if mine has moved..I was told that anterior is better in that it’s more likely to move. Fingers crossed for you! I was told most of them move but still worrying as I have a toddler to chase after so really don’t want a c-section!

I had placenta previa and was hospitalised for 7 weeks from 27 weeks (due to bleeding) until I had a massive bleed at 34 weeks and had an Emergency caesarean.

How many weeks were you when you had your section? Is it sooner than 39 weeks when it's due to a low placenta?

I really don't mind how baby gets here so long as we're both ok, not opposed to the idea of a section at all. It's my first baby so I'd have nothing to compare it to. I'm just finding the not knowing annoying lol Envy

Fingers crossed yours has moved. I've a scan in 2 weeks time, just can't wait to know either way!

I had this- low lying placenta- and at every single scan, including the 32 week one, it hadn’t moved beyond the ‘threshold’. So I was eventually referred to a consultant, where I assumed a c section would be discussed. However, he looked at the measurements and said it would be fine. It was a very short appointment.
I had her naturally (I did bleed with each contraction, but they think that’s because I was dilating so quickly).
Try not to stress too much, I did! 🙈

I had placenta previa stage 4. The placenta was completely blocking the birth canal. Diagnosed at 20 weeks. They were hoping it would move so I had regular scans which were good. Went in for planned c section at 38 weeks. No bleeding or anything.

Can I ask how you found your recovery?

I think 37, might have been 38. It was definitely earlier than 39 because they don’t want to risk you going into labour.

I had low lying and it moved. The leaflet I was given was titled placenta praevia though and it mentioned it like there were two types, near the cervix or covering. Mine moved at 32 or 34 weeks, can’t remember which one I had the scan at

sarah13xx · 16/10/2021 23:42

Had two friends with low lying placentas and theirs moved too, think it’s an 80% chance of moving if it’s just low
