Constant nausea - 7wks pregnant

Hi, looking for some advice as I’m really struggling - currently pregnant with my second baby. The nausea has been constant for about 2 weeks, and it’s starting to get worse to the point I feel sick if someone even talks to me about food. It’s waking me up in the night, and the food aversions are unreal - I don’t want to eat anything, the thought of even dry crackers or breadsticks makes me want to heave. I haven’t actually been sick yet, but it’s the constant nausea that’s really starting to affect my day to day life - I’m dreading waking up on a morning and having to deal with it all again.

I know nausea/sickness is normal, I’ve been here before with my first but this is on another level… does anyone have any tips please to curb the nausea (even a tiny bit)

Thanks x

Snap!! Been the same for 3 weeks and it’s awful!!!! Been sick a few times but it’s mainly the aversions to everything … literally if you think there is something you could eat, get it and eat it. I am finding that I need cold food, hot food is a complete no no! Things like jam sandwiches are my latest. I just had cold pasta for tea tonight, I am drinking loads of cordials with ice, pineapple is my favourite thing. I probably haven’t eaten a proper evening meal since finding out I was pregnant, but my main focus is being hydrated and keeping what I can eat down, I feel for you as it’s awful!!! Xxxxx

Also avoid the supermarket 🤦‍♀️ That makes me want to vomit! X

I'm 9+3, still incredibly nauseous. What's helping is eating a small snack at least every hour or two, if I'm hungry it's much worse. I've stocked up on anything that has sounded good at any point, most isn't the healthiest but I'd rather be eating something. My go-to snacks at the moment are babybel, laughing cow dippers, salt and vinegar mcoys, ready salted crisps, plain biscuits like rich tea or golden crunch, fizzy jelly sweets, flapjacks. If Im struggling to find something I fancy then drinking a decent amount of squash also helps get my stomach less empty and I can normally manage something. I have snacks in my bedroom and on my desk so I can just reach for something or I get distracted. For meals, again salty stuff seems to work best, chip shop chips was a hit last week, tonight I had chicken nuggets, waffles and spaghetti hoops and it was delicious! 🤣

Exactly the same, everything is making me feel sick, the smell of my own house, people breathing near me, every time I move, the list is never ending. I’ve noticed it’s worse if I don’t eat, so I’m trying to eat little and often.

SickAndTiredAgain · 10/10/2021 19:23

As hard as it is, try to find anything you can eat when you wake up, before you even get out of bed. Dry crackers are often recommended, but other things that’s help with my nausea are smoothies, raisins (eaten very slowly, literally one at a time, but I do gradually feel better), and Granny Smith apples, I don’t know why but I think the sourness cuts through the yucky feeling in my mouth. I basically have one apple on the go all day, just nibbling at it. Salt and vinegar crisps are good too.
Also, anti sickness medication from the GP, and vitamin b6.

Imohsotired · 10/10/2021 19:35

I’ve had the same for 3 months and today is the first day I’ve eaten breakfast and dinner in ages. I even dread doing the online shop it makes me feel so sick. I’ve aversions to everything (even to non food things like the room I work from at home sends my nausea spiralling if that’s even possible!)

Sleeping helps mine pass for a while, I don’t eat in the evening or I feel sick all night and my DH does all food prep and feeding the kids.

Kisskiss · 10/10/2021 20:13

Have you tried ginger candy? The chewy gummy type ones helped me a lot.. someone suggested sparkling water too

RainbowTime · 11/10/2021 07:36

Hi @baystreetbaby

Thanks for sharing.

Currently 8 weeks and been having same problem.

Feel more sick the more hungry I get too and very difficult to eat past this.

Have been having small amounts at least 2 hourly - such as - haribos. bachelors cup of soups (plain veg). Quavers. Mash potato and sometimes added gravy. Plain grilled chicken. When I can’t stomach these a pink fancy apple is glorious in small amounts. Again once I’ve eaten them whilst feeling very sick sometimes it’s too unbearable to eat again as you associate it with feeling so ill Confused

Don’t fancy any of it but seems plainer is easier to keep down.

Tried ginger tea/products. They do nothing for me what so ever, in fact the tea makes me feel even more nauseous.

Best of luck… let’s hope this passes! Flowers

Cyclazine will take the edge off it a bit. Depends how bad it is and how much it's impacting everyday activity. Personally I couldn't move for months and the drugs just made lying still slightly less nausea inducing.

Franca123 · 11/10/2021 07:43

Ginger, crackers etc...... didn't make the slightest difference and I honestly thought people were insane suggesting it. Like giving you a plaster when your leg bone is sticking out of your skin.

Franca123 · 11/10/2021 07:47

Super noodles are good plain food. And forget about eating healthy. Just eat what you can / need to keep on top of the nausea.

RainbowTime · 11/10/2021 08:53

@Franca123 100% how I see ginger products too!!!! Like a plaster on a gaping hole in the head!!!!! Grin

Franca123 · 11/10/2021 09:02

One of the worst sicks I had was Fever Tree ginger ale. Burning fizzing on the way out. In my first pregnancy I followed the advise to get some fresh air. Ended up climging to the kerb at the end of the road vommitting into the gutter. That's when it started to occur to me that this wasn't normal.

Franca123 · 11/10/2021 09:03

Do what you can manage and don't let anyone tell you to put up with it if you're not able to.

Frostine · 11/10/2021 09:08

Yes it's an awful time , but hopefully will pass . I used to walk home from work , and I think the exercise after sitting at a desk most of the day would make me actually throw up in the street . I ended up going home down different streets !

Yahyahs22 · 11/10/2021 09:09

Mine was awful at that stage, puking and all! The only thing that got me through was eaten often and drinking water. I'm 13 weeks now and it's eased so much.

cockneysparra1 · 11/10/2021 15:42

I've just phoned my doctor to beg for help with this! I'm also 7 weeks and really struggling. It is constant and even wakes me up in the middle of the night. I'm definitely slightly better when I eat small and often. I've been having a single hash brown with loads of salt a few times a day (I know 😬).

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 11/10/2021 17:27

Joining in solidarity. I’m 10 weeks and have horrendous all day nausea. This is my third baby. I had it severely with my first 2 but I think it is slightly worse this time. Keep nearly throwing up on the school run Sad

I haven’t been able to look at a vegetable in weeks and all I can eat is hula hoops, chips, haribo, plain toast, hobnobs. Amazing you can grow a human eating so little nutrients but my first 2 were absolutely fine. Hope it eases up soon.

baystreetbaby · 11/10/2021 21:22

Thank you all so much for your messages - feeling much less alone. Tried eating little and often today, which has been a bit better and had a nap in my lunch break which also helped. Got my first midwife appt tomorrow so hoping to chat to her about it then. Hope you’re all feeling ok today xx

@baystreetbaby have just picked up some cyclizine to try... fingers crossed! X

Snooptheboot · 11/10/2021 21:46

Oh bless you! I had horrific nausea with both of mine, vomiting as well but the nausea was so much worse. Definitely ask the doctor for something to help, cyclizine is good but not the only option of you find it’s not working for you. I copied much better with the medication- I still threw up multiple times a day but the constant nausea ended.
Good luck and congratulations!

LetsDoTheTango · 11/10/2021 22:16

I'm so sorry you're struggling. I can totally empathise as I was in your position a few weeks ago, it really is awful. I constantly felt on the verge of vomiting. Like previous posters, even the smell of my own house - and my own husband - made me gag! The only time I didn't feel nauseous was when I was asleep. I'm now 11 weeks and while I still get regular bouts of nausea, I feel one million per cent better. I know it's not like that for everyone and you know your limits, so if you're struggling to cope then please let your midwife or doctor know so they can explore medication for you. This first trimester can be really rough.

Personally, what is getting me/has got me through is/was going to bed early (tiredness made it worse), staying hydrated, eating juicy fruit, eating little and often (even if I don't feel like it), ice lollies and really sour sweets.

I hope your midwife appointment goes well tomorrow. Hang in there! Xxx

Franca123 · 11/10/2021 22:17

Cyclazine made me very drowsy which was actually nice as I wasn't so aware of how sick I felt. But the drowsiness wore off after a few days. Plenty of rest and sleep helped me a lot. I'd love a third baby but reading this reminds me why we can't cope! Best of luck to everyone. Mine did become much more manageable as the pregnancy progressed. By the end I was even going out to restaurants and doing fun things again.
