Looking for some recommendations for comfy but practical clothes in the hospital after my section please.

I had an emergency with my first and had not prepared for it at all so I spent 5 days in the hospital in my compression stockings and a dressing gown boobs out most of the time, it was quite a look 😂 however it was summer so was hot!

Section is scheduled for 8th December and this time I’m hoping to find some nice comfy clothes that will be practical for breastfeeding so I don’t need to have them out all the time haha but also hoping to cover the awful compression stockings without also hurting my incision. Any recommendations from your experience would be appreciated! Probably asking for too much Grin

Try and get pj bottoms that don’t dig into your waist and literally the biggest maternity pants possible so they don’t go near your wound either. I made that mistake during my first section with stuff digging in and making it quite uncomfortable. I had two nighties with string straps that I could pull up and down.

AutumnVibes · 09/10/2021 19:55

I have a maternity nightie called a Bamboo Birthing shirt and it is amazing. Very comfy and wore for feeding at night for ages after. Also have some Chelsea Peers pyjamas and they are lovely abs so so soft and stretchy around the waistband so would be comfortable on the sore area I think.

Large sleep shirts in the next size up worked well for me as there was no waistband other than my giant post-section pants.

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 09/10/2021 20:12

I just wore my maternity leggings under the hospital gown. The waistband was around my ears. Didn’t want to get anything nice to bleed all over.

Suzi888 · 09/10/2021 20:16

Big. The biggest pants and high waisted PJ’s you can lay your hands on.
Maternity leggings sound bliss @DressedUpAtAnIvy something to stop anything wobbling about (I’m very squeamish).

Pinkstegosaurus · 09/10/2021 20:30

H&M maternity joggers were amazing, I lived in them through pregnancy and still wear them occasionally now…DD is 7 weeks Blush
M&S 5 pack of high waisted black knickers are the bollocks and primark long line vest tops to pull down for feeding. Long cardi over the top and that was how I spent the first week of DD’s life!
When the joggers were in the wash I would (and still do!) wear Lucy and yak dungarees over a loose T-shirt or strapped top, no waistband to dig in, they are soooo comfy and pockets for everything and easy for feeding!

Moonbabysmum · 09/10/2021 20:36

Most of the time you are only in for one night, and you may well so have your catheter in for that, so nighties are much more practical that early on. No pants underneath was you'll just be on a puppy pad, so the nightie can sit around your waist if you want.

Glassofshloer · 09/10/2021 20:37

A nice comfy jersey jumpsuit might be an idea? I haven’t had a Caesarian but lived in one after I gave birth, no elastic around the middle etc.

PragmaticWench · 09/10/2021 20:38

Don't expect the hospital to be any cooler in winter, hotter than hades in December so I spent the whole time wearing nothing but a sheet.

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 09/10/2021 20:39

I wore an oversized onesie

PragmaticWench · 09/10/2021 20:40

Oh yes, I did have a nightie that buttoned down the front at the top so the catheter was okay and I could feed. Used that on the last day, then at home.

Alicesays · 09/10/2021 20:42

I just wore an absolutely massive soft shirt from Primark.

birdglasspen · 09/10/2021 20:42

I i love my pjs from next, pink pair and navy blue with flowers, maternity and nursing pjs, also Jono mama blue with pink trim all comfy! Sorry can’t find links. M&S do good c section pants!

ToddlerMumma · 09/10/2021 20:43

Maternity wards are always boiling in my experience!! I wore large T-shirt material strappy dresses so no pressure on the incision and easy boob access. And huge high waisted pants with the biggest maternity pads I could find. And flip flops for waddling to the loo. You'll hopefully only be in for a day or 2. Good luck x

sarah13xx · 09/10/2021 20:51

I went for nighties. I did end up bleeding through one of them and having to very awkwardly try to get changed when I wasn’t long able to stand. With the next nightie I then pulled it up past my bum and just lay on the pad on the bed with my pants on so I could change them if it happened again rather than have no nightie left to change into! I didn’t wear pajamas for a while when I got home, more just because I still had a big bump. I took a green loose dress to leave hospital in but ended up wearing my loose joggers and top because I was scared I’d bleed through the dress, wish I’d taken a black one!

Moonbabysmum · 09/10/2021 21:09

This was the sort of thing I wore

Nighties with popper or button front, I got 2 happy mama ones from amazon. Dressing gown if you need to walk around ward, I got a thin one from matalan.

My catheter was in 3 nights so bottoms would have been stupid to have with me. I only left my room to get lunch and go home on my final day. Was thankfully to get my own room as everything was close to the bed inc walls, I lost a lot of blood so felt very weak when on my feet.

Arecklessmanor · 09/10/2021 22:14

I'm planning to bring loose nighties that will be okay for feeding and catheter. If they can be (fake!) silk that would be good as easier to slide/shuffle along the bed.

Planning to wear not a lot at home, just loose dresses if I have a visitor but should only be DH, the baby and me for a while.

I think a jumpsuit would be tricky in the early days post C-section. To be honest I'd find it more of a faff to get in and out of.

I have some humungous pregnancy pants which I think will be okay, can stick a pad over the wound.

I'll bring flip flops and

Arecklessmanor · 09/10/2021 22:16

Whoops, I'll bring flip flops and slippers, just realised OP mentioned the compression stockings so not sure if my usual toe post flip flops will be okay so need a plan B!

NEAKT5 · 10/10/2021 11:41

Thank you all so much for the recommendations Smile I’ll look into them all but it looks as though nighties with buttons will be best for comfort and feeding and those pesky compression stockings will just have to be on show. Dreading the 6 weeks of them but needs must to reduce risks!

I think with my first when I had the catheter in I was still in the hospital gown as I don’t think I changed out of that the first 24 hours, was too weak and DP wasn’t allowed to stay because of covid last year so couldn’t help change me.

I second m&s pants they were amazing first time around for the pads and the incision.no wore my maternity leggings home which I’ll do again. Also a thin dressing gown is a must which I still have luckily. I had my own room and shower the first time but won’t be getting that this time, had a covid test during labour Confused and then no one needed the room even though I was negative so was just lucky to stay in it!

Just had third csection. I just wear loose pj bottoms and a vest top, or loose top to pull up, etc. Not a fan of nightdresses. Only had to wear the compression socks for 2 weeks this time and only at night once you're active during the day, I felt great and could move well quickly, and also had baby in NICU in a nearby city so I stopped wearing them during the day after 7 days. Such a relief compared to my first time having to wear them 24/7 for 6 weeks in the height of summer.

NEAKT5 · 10/10/2021 12:43

@Garman that’s exactly what I felt like wearing them for the summer period! I think in the end I only wore them at night after the first 4 weeks so I probably will end up doing something similar this time. I’m glad your birth went so well and hope baby is doing well x
