Can someone help me to stop worrying? NT measurement

Hi everyone,

To start off, I have terrible anxiety anyway and I'm finding pregnancy so hard to cope with. Baby is very much longed for and we've been through lots of fertility treatment to get here.

I went for my scan yesterday where baby was 12+6. Sonographer wasn't at all concerned and said everything was fine, baby was stubborn and wouldn't move onto their back, but they said they could still measure NT. it came back at 2.7mm and no alarm bells were rang and they just said yes all good kind of thing. However, I know from researching (like an idiot) that this seems a little high... online most people's are 1. Something or even 0. Something... and it's just panicked me a bit. Which is sad because I felt such relief after the scan, and after an hour or 2 this kicked in again...

Would you be worried about this measurement? I think the NHS say under 3.5mm but still, mines a little close to that isn't it??

Help 😣

It's fine. Don't worry, easier said than done. 2.7 is perfectly normal

Thank yous o much @Helpdesk3 it's mad how even just a few reassuring words from a stranger on here can ease worrying! So thank you so much for that ☺️ maybe I should listen to my husband after all haha!

I had my 12 week scan on Wednesday. They told me that anything under 3.5 mm is fine. Mine came back as 1.6 mm.

Thanks @Harlequin1088 that's also very reassuring. I think what worried me was I wasn't told the upper limit so I had to find it out myself. Some websites say under 2.5 but I assume this is just old advice as my hospital and all NHS guidance says 3.5!

NT measurement normal parameters are based on gestational age so there's no point in comparing yourself to someone who may have been scanned a few days earlier or later in pregnancy.

Your measurement is totally normal for 12 weeks and a bit.

Also, it's a range of measurement that's considered unremarkable with no justification for follow up testing - everything within the range is fine, both the highest and lowest and all points in between.

There's no "extra low risk" in having a tiny measurement (albeit they're all tiny really!)

I totally get you. I had an ectopic pregnancy last time so my anxiety is through the roof this pregnancy. Everyone just tells you to relax lol but it doesn't help! I think it's very hard being pregnant in the internet age because you can drive yourself batty at the click of a button

@ditalini thank you so much for this and helping me to look at things with a rational head! Everything is such a minefield but thank you so much for making things clearer for me to understand x

@Harlequin1088 so sorry to hear about your ectopic, I had a mmc last time at 10 weeks (baby stopped developing earlier) so I think it's the same with me! Pregnancy after loss is terrifying isn't it. I know haha! I'm like I'd love to relax actually but I just can't 😂. Yeah totally right with the internet, google is the worst sometimes! Hoping for a healthy pregnancy for us both xx
