Haven't heard from midwife and I'm almost 9 weeks!

Received a voicemail from the midwife on Monday saying she would ring me back later on in the day but she didn't. She didn't leave a number and the number she called from says No Caller Id. Getting really annoyed and upset. When I try to call the hospital they just say you have to wait to hear from the midwife. My GP had no clue about the midwife and so I had to do a self-referral. SO FRUSTRATED!!! Anyone else experienced this? Angry

Yeah. The NHS website says to contact your doctor/GP as soon as you know you're pregnant. Why, if they are gonna ignore you for months? I would think someone showed give you a brief intro into what to expect (body wise, appointment wise) and what to avoid doing/eating during those early weeks.
'should' give you a brief intro..

Where I come from they give you a book at your GP appointment to talk about body changes, rough appointment times etc. Is that not the norm?

I'm in slightly similar situation, but further along and heard nothing from midwives yet.

I rang my gps surgery 3 weeks ago to register with midwife as that's the procedure here. They took my details down and said a midwife will be in touch. I hadn't heard anything last week so I rang the drs again just to check I was on the list and they said midwife had took details on 22nd Sept and they aim to call you within 2 weeks. The two weeks have now passed and still not heard anything. When would people start chasing again? For context I'm 10 nearly 11 weeks. I don't want to keep hassling them as I know they are busy but I also know I need to get booked in for a scan soon! This is #2 so if it wasn't for getting booked in for a scan I wouldn't mind too much.

The NHS website tells you all that stuff too to tide you over til booking so if the bit where it says to contact GP straight away has been found, all that should be pretty discoverable too?www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/
As an aside you have to go through GP here rather than self-referring, GP does a very brief chat for signposting.

When I told my GP surgery they said the midwife would be in touch before 10 weeks she then just randomly called me at about 10 weeks for an over the phone booking appointment

Might be face to face now so I would ask for the appointment maybe?

Last time although it was 4 years ago I rang the gp and midwife rang back the same day and made me a booking in appointment.

I thinks it's all changed though as they used to have appointments at the drs surgery so you used to be able be ring there for appointments. I now can't even find a number for the community midwifes, as none of the websites seem to have been updated for how it's changed! I think I'll give it till the middle of next week and if still not heard anything I'll be onto the gps again!!

The team returned my call today (I'd left a voicemail yesterday as not heard from them in a week), it wasn't my assigned midwife but wanted to double check all details and reassure me that they have got me on the list and that she was surprised I hadn't had a call from my own midwife yet as she had some notes in the system from her that looked like she would've been in touch.

Just for reference, I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and she did have some urgency about her and reconfirmed that my bloods need to be taken before 9 weeks, so it's not always the case they leave you hanging until 10-12 weeks, around here they try to see you around 8 weeks.

redandwhite1 · 09/10/2021 00:10

Everywhere is so different, I didn't give blood til my 12 week scan which was actually 14 as I was away

Cantthinkofaname99 · 09/10/2021 09:26

@redandwhite1 yeah it was like that with my 1st, they did all the blood tests the same time as my scan. My booking in appointment with first was also on a Sunday at my house!

Cantthinkofaname99 · 14/10/2021 12:19

I'm still waiting to hear and it's starting to stress me out a bit now. I'll be 12 weeks on Sunday! I did a bit of chasing on Tuesday and rang a number that the drs had for the community midwifes I spoke to someone there who sent an email to the midwifes who deal with my area and said one of them should be in touch, I did stress that I was 11 weeks so I probably needed to get booked in for scan etc. She said that if I hadn't heard anything in a couple of days to ring them back, so I'll probably be on the phone to them tomorrow!

I'm finding it really frustrating, all I want is for someone to tell me I'm on someone's list, if I knew that I wouldn't mind waiting! It's also really hard to just find a phone number!
