Hi everyone, it’s my first pregnancy I’m currently 6 weeks. I didn’t smoke or drink before and did exercise every day so would class myself as very healthy.
I had my first dose back in June when I wasn’t pregnant, everything was normal, no side affects or anything.
I’m now due my second dose and just a little 50/50, as I would hate for something to go wrong, I wouldn’t forgive myself however if I don’t get fully vaccinated and was to catch covid I would be putting my unborn baby at risk?
Any opinions are welcome, thank you xx

Covid in pregnancy is not good.

I had both my vaccines while pregnant. It was absolutely fine, and I’m pleased that I’m now fully vaccinated. Three people in my pregnancy group have had Covid, one had to deliver her baby at 29 weeks, one is now having a baby that’s measuring a lot smaller than it was and is having weekly monitoring, one had a horrid time of it and had to take her SATS a lot and was really ill, but baby seems okay.

There’s a lot of data on the vaccine and Covid in pregnancy now, especially from the US, if you search for it. There wasn’t as much when I had to make the decision, but there was still enough to make an informed choice.

Congratulations on your baby!

Lots of information available from the RCOG and the NHS, who are advising all expectant mothers to get the vaccine.

I myself was hesitant to begin with, but lots of information out there and data coming from the US & UK, along with babies being born, that prove it efficacy. I had my first vaccine at 21+6 and am booked in for my second in November. Baby has been perfect since then, and actually more active than she was before. All seems well, and glad I am now finally getting some protection.

I had both Moderna shot while pregnant

WeepySheepy · 05/10/2021 13:41

Completely up to you. I wish the vaccine had been around when I was pregnant as it would have helped relieve a lot of the anxiety.

Mamatobex · 05/10/2021 13:45

Thanks everyone for your advice, gives me reassurance that everything will be okay and it is normal to have a few worries but I just want what’s best for me and my baby xx

My IVF clinic told me to go ahead and have the vaccine whatever stage of the process I was at when offered. I got both before getting pregnant but they said if the appointment came later to make sure I got it done.

Sleepyquest · 05/10/2021 13:47

I've had both whilst being pregnant. Currently 23 weeks Smile
RCOG said it's the right thing to do so I went with that!

Mamatobex · 05/10/2021 13:48

Thank you @MrsRubyMonday think I will be booking my second dose this week so I have the best protection x

I was also super wary and concerned about getting it, I pushed it back so much but eventually at 22 weeks I decided to go for it. After seeing all the experiences of those getting Covid in third trimester I decided it was the safest thing for me and my baby. All has been fine so far and i fully plan to get my second at the end of this month once I am due it
I suggest doing your own research though as it's the best way for you to feel comfortable with your decision

InTheNightWeWillWish · 05/10/2021 13:56

It’s a big decision but look at the data behind the vaccine and you can make a decision that you’re comfortable with. It’s all quite easily findable on google.

I had both of mine during pregnancy at 12 and 21 weeks. No problems with baby. Since having my second vaccine I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes (not as a result of the vaccine) and I’m so glad I took the opportunity to get the vaccine before I developed pregnancy complications. Obviously, hopefully you’ll have an uncomplicated pregnancy but you don’t really get warning of when complications will arise and if you’ll become even more vulnerable.

Tootiredtowatertheplants · 05/10/2021 14:01

I'm a GP and 24 weeks pregnant. I couldn't book my booster fast enough!
Lots of evidence that covid is very bad in third trimester. No evidence of any harm to baby. Hope that helps.

babyboybluex · 05/10/2021 14:04

I am currently 7+5 weeks pregnant and going to get my first dose after 12 weeks (it's my personal choice after research and speaking to experts). I'll then get my second dose 8 weeks after that x

shivbo2014 · 05/10/2021 14:11

I'm on exactly the same situation. I had the 1st jab before I was pregnant and am now 6 weeks and feeling really nervous about the 2nd one. I have booked it for next week though. I was debating just waiting until the 2nd trimester to book it?

Essexgirlupnorth · 05/10/2021 14:18

Check out pregnant then screwed on their Instagram have done alot on vaccines in pregnancy and have a number you can WhatsApp with any questions or concerns.

EarlGreywithLemon · 05/10/2021 14:18

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant and I should become eligible for my booster in early November. All going well, fingers crossed, I’ll be eight weeks then. It honestly can’t come soon enough. Covid in pregnancy is very risky for both mother and baby. I’d have it today if I could.

Aozora13 · 05/10/2021 14:20

I had mine at I think 20 and 28 weeks. No side effects other than a sore arm, which I also had with my whooping cough jab (in between covid jabs!). Baby is 10 days old and perfect (except sleep function seems to be broken). I got covid in March 2020 and went from fit and healthy to bed-ridden for several months so was first in the queue as soon as vaccines were recommended in pregnancy.

Mamatobex · 05/10/2021 14:41

Thank you so much everyone for your opinions, it’s definitely helped me sway my decision and know I will be doing what I think is right for me and my baby 🥰 xx

I had Astrazeneca a week before finding out I was pregnant so now have been worrying about having my second dose.

Darceyhemingway · 05/10/2021 21:12

I had my first one when I wasn't pregnant, my second in my TWW and my booster last week at 31 weeks. My midwife was delighted that I'd had it and said she's really encouraging women to get it. Don't forget that your baby will have the antibodies from it so they've got abit of protection when they come out
