Spa dilema

paulaplumpbottom · 07/12/2007 17:37

As a Christmas present for me and my SIL my MIL wants to take us to a spa for a couple of days. The thing is that they need the treatments booked now. My MIL wants to book at all at once. We haven't told her I'm pregnant yet and I don't know what treatments I can and can't have.

Call the spa and ask them; they will know.

I tried that, the woman was completely unhelpful and said she didn't know

Why don't you ring another spa and ask them?

I think you have to avoid treatments with lots of heat.
And if you want a massage tehy are cagey about doing it before 12 weeks for some reaosn.

tyaca · 07/12/2007 18:04

ring again, you may get someone more helpful. really surprised the first woman you spoke to was rubbish.

all facials should be fine, but very few masseuses will go near anyone in the first 12 twelve weeks of prgnancy

paulaplumpbottom · 07/12/2007 18:09

I'll be 13 weeks when we go.

I was suprised to. It sounded like she couldn't be bothered to be honest. I would have thought it was a very popular question

Seriously, ring a different spa, say you are thinking of coming and aks what you could have done.
That woman sounds useless - I've asked this question before and people sound really informed and helpful.

poppy34 · 07/12/2007 18:57

paula - massages generally out in first 12 weeks and only after if they're properly trained. That also means a lot of body treatments (incl where they do wraps are out).

most facials (if no vigorous massage), manicures and pedicures ok.

Also if its got spa/sauna bit -sauna out and spa jacuzzi prob worth checking (if its too hot or too vigorous jets thats out).

And bella is right -she sounds useless. I've learned that its not daft to ask as you do need to check

paulaplumpbottom · 07/12/2007 19:16

some aromatherapy treatments aren't advisable early on either

hope you can find someone at the spa who knows what they're talking about!

paulaplumpbottom · 07/12/2007 20:34

Thanks Becky

Hi i just went for my 30th and am currently 36 weeks.
Back massage ok but they are restricted on oils they can use but masseuse will know. I sat on chair and lent forwards on bed!
I had facial but tbh didn't really enjoy it as steam too hot and had to keep stopping as felt faint so would avoid anything with heat!
Also you can't use jacuzzi or sauna, i had to chat to all friends from pool!
Would go for manicure, pedicure, back massage was lovely. Maybe head massage.

paulaplumpbottom · 07/12/2007 21:24

I was a bit concerned about oils. I know some can be harmful

seems unbelievable paulapb, even their website says:

"We have specially designed treatments for expectant mothers. Please allow our Spa team to guide you in selecting which treatments are most suitable for you during this special time."

ring again and ask to talk to someone intelligent!

ps. I'm an especial fan of manicures and pedicures, especially with a lovely relaxing massage! had one yesterday and I am still high on happy hormones. Enjoy yourself!
