Anyone else getting really lazy with pregnancy?!

This is probably just me feeling guilty. I was so active before pregnancy, I'd go to the gym every morning before work and run 4-5 miles at a time on my days off.

At the start of my pregnancy, I tried to go to the gym when I had the energy and my runs turned into run/walks. I then started to get a bit of round ligament pain when I ran, so I stopped running, but still used to walk about 4 miles 3 or 4 times per week. As the pregnancy has progressed, this has dwindled down to a walk to the shop when I'm in desperate need for a pint of milk or bar of chocolate (half a mile either way!)

Now, as I'm entering my third trimester, I've realised that my exercise habits have dwindled into a Saturday morning pregnancy yoga class, which is more breathing and stretching, rather than being an actual workout.

Maybe just me trying to make myself feel better about being lazy, but anyone else in the same boat?

Yes, I can totally relate to this! I used to work out several times a week pre pregnancy and I tried to do some exercise but it got to the point that I'd do spin/some weight training and I was then so tired for the next 3 or 4 days... my recovery time was shocking. So since about 18 weeks I've basically done nothing apart from a 30 minute (slow) walk twice a day with the dog!

I've put on so much weight too as I'm an all or nothing person... I either exercise of eat well or don't exercise and eat absolute rubbish (and lots of it!).... I'm actually looking forward to getting back to a bit of a routine exercise-wise after giving birth (and once I've recovered)... I feel like a massive sedentary out of breath lump!! Grin

Sorry for the rant!!!

Growing a baby uses a lot of energy, your organs are all crowded out and it just is tiring. Give yourself a break! I remember when my first was born it was a revelation being able to move easily again. I’d almost forgotten that finding physical movement hard wasn’t my permanent state.

I’m 31 weeks now and finding it really tough just pushing the pram to the park, picking up after my toddler around the house etc.

Same here. I used to work out 5 times a week and now... I go for a daily walk. Exercise makes me feel sick! I think health wise I'm doing fine, but I am really worried about losing strength because... that would come in use for the whole giving birth bit wouldn't it?

I'm at 28 weeks and have bad days and good days in terms of feeling up to exercise. Some days my abdomen feels so crowded I can't get up the hill to my house without a rest. Other days I can run a slow 5k and am on my feet for the rest of the day without too much discomfort. It varies hugely, so I don't push myself if I'm having a bad day, although I try to keep in mind that fitness and stamina might help when it comes to the birth, and also recovery.
Sleep has a lot to answer for with this, I think. Some nights I wake about once an hour with back, neck, shoulder & hip pain. So that takes its toll. We just have to do what we can to get through it!

Me! I just tell myself I'll pick it back up afterwards. I was never a runner but did a fair bit of yoga, swimming, cycling, and walking. I did almost nothing in my first trimester as I was too exhausted. Stopped cycling around 16 weeks as I felt nervous about it. I also haven't done much yoga as everything feels uncomfortable. Now I'm 33 weeks and get too tired even to walk very far.

The one thing I've sort of kept up is swimming, but I didn't do it in the first trimester (bleeding) and at the moment I have a cold, so now waiting for that to pass!

I'm just trying not to worry about it. My feeling is that I need to conserve my energy and as long as I get a bit of outside time, I don't feel too bad. But I do try to walk at least a little bit because it does help my back.

Also I agree with @dorothygaleandtoto about the sleep. I've been sleeping dreadfully because everything hurts and that really does not motivate me during the day!

Me! Totally, I really hope I get my mojo back after little one arrives. I’ve put on 4 stone and I really hope that I go back to loving exercise again.

Never been as active as you but used to walk several miles a day. now just a trip to Tesco (maybe a half mile round trip) leaves me shattered

Bananapancakes6 · 05/10/2021 13:25

I feel this so much but I refuse to call it lazy! We are growing a whole person, plus we have grown a whole new organ too. I think we can give ourselves a break.

I have never been an exercise person, but I walked around 2h each day. I walked 20 mins with my toddler yesterday and honestly, felt like I was going to die. I am anaemic tho, so my energy levels are low low.

Aww thanks for your comments! Feeling a bit better about myself!

I've just been bombarded recently with people telling me stories about how active they were up until labour and a few pregnant friends on Facebook are always updating their statuses with gym selfies!

I'm nervous as well that lack of fitness will make labour more difficult. Let's hope that the fitness and muscle that I've managed to retain will pull me through it! Smile

I used to canicross with my dog 2 or 3 mornings before work (approx 5k) and then at a weekend we'd be out for a 10k run most weekends.

My last run was April, when I found out I was pregnant...I ran a 5k race, it was the worst I'd ever done (I struggled with every bit of it). I've been suffering hip pain from quite early on.

Now a 5k slow stroll is the absolute limit that I can do.

I saw someone who was 22 weeks pregnant with twins be a pacemaker for a 10k race the other week...Everyone is different.

I'd love to still be able to get out but just walking with this hip pain is enough.

Amz6219 · 05/10/2021 14:46

Yep, I am 38 weeks and I just ordered a subway from 0.5 miles away to be delivered to work... I think baby has dropped though and the pelvic pain is horrendous today

I used to do triathlons, run, gym, swim and did manage to keep up with at least 5k walk a day plus 2 swims a week at first, but third trimester and it has fallen by the wayside really.. it just gets more and more difficult!

I was the same with my son, and despite traumatic labour / EMCS I was back out running in 2.5 months and ran a half marathon the following year. It does come back but you just have to listen to your body and if you don't feel like it, don't do it!
