Hi everyone
I’m 22 weeks with baby no 2, and very ashamed to say i’ve hit 25 stone. I’m absolutely mortified and scared stiff of labour and things going wrong. I have a six year old and just keep thinking i have to make sure i come home to him.
I’m thinking of joining SlimmingWorld and wondered if anyone had any experience of SW when pregnant or plus size birth stories? Wondering if its possible to lose any weight or make myself healthier between now and the birth? My first birth ended in forceps and episiotomy with an infection after that made my stitches come undone, so very much wanting a better experience if possible. TIA x

@Bunny2607 I was almost 19 stone when diagnosed with gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy then started losing weight as obviously has to drastically change my diet.

Currently 10 weeks pregnant with baby #3 and calorie counting as my BMI is 38.8 and I want it under 35 before it's born as having to have a c-section, this is working well for me as already lost 7LBS. The bigger you are the more at risk of complications! Speak to a midwife they can send you to someone who will help you lose weight!

Slimming world has to much free food that I over indulge in personally!

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and very overweight
I've lost about 7lbs this pregnancy just through trying to be a bit more careful
I know its not a massive amount but wanted to say it is doable

Hi @Bunny2607 before you start thinking about losing weight please speak to your doctor first! I’m not sure how safe it is to start dieting during pregnancy but hopefully they’ll be able to advise you.

Just on Slimming World, it’s totally subjective and different for everyone but I’ve found it to be confusing and expensive. I lost five stone this year (before pregnancy) eating in a calorie deficit. I worked out how many calories I needed to maintain my current body weight and simply ate less. I didn’t restrict myself and still had a takeaway on a Saturday within my deficit. It was actually really easy, free to do and I would recommend it.

Thank you everyone!
I’d not actually thought about tracking calories but it seems obvious now! Which app do you use? I guess i’ve got 18 weeks left to try make a difference, even if i can maintain or not put much on its better than nothing i guess.

Maintaining weight during pregnancy actually means losing body fat. Because baby+placenta+amniotic fluid+extra blood all weigh something. So maybe 7ish kgs of weight (can be more for a larger baby or more fluid). So giving birth at the same weight as pre-pregnancy is like a 7ish kg weight loss.

I use MyFitnessPal for tracking what I eat. I’ve been doing it every day since Jan, even through pregnancy! You can enter your weight goals there (maintain, gain, lose) and it’ll work out roughly what calories you should be on with your height and weight in mind. Or you can disregard it and work out your calories online using a calculator, just Google calorie deficit or pregnancy calorie deficit. If it helps I need around 2,400 a day to maintain my weight which is actually a lot! When I was bigger it was around 3,000 which is actually quite hard to do when you start focusing on what you’re eating. Good luck and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy!

I used my fitness pal to track but this website - www.jamessmithacademy.com/macro-calculator/ to work out my calories as the others usually give you a number to low!!

As long as your midwife agree you can join sw. Sw is concerned to be safe in pregnancy. I noticed that today there is a voucher in the Sunday people for free joining fee.

I've followed SW for the last 2 years and have maintained my target weight for the last year. It's honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made health wise. I'm now 10weeks pregnant with my second and I'm following it again through this pregnancy. I don't find it overly expensive and once you have read the books it's easy to follow. I recommend it to everyone now, and you can still eat plenty whilst your pregnant!

I did SW during 2 pregnancies. You need your midwife to sign a form your group leader can give you to say she agrees but it’s a weight-loss program that is approved by Royal collage of midwives.

I was in SW before I got pregnant having lost 5st and followed it during my 2nd pregnancy. Once I’d had baby and been back to group I was only 1.5 stone heavier than when I started. With my 3rd pregnancy similar story

I did slimming world during both pregnancies it was a game changer
Mary not to get too stressed tho it's
No good for you or your baby or family

Try not to focus on the negative just locate your nearest class and phone the consultant up for a chat - any groups I've ever been to were very welcoming
