Has anyone just sized up in clothing or bought clothes labelled for maternity.

I've done both now.

First pregnancy I'd fortunately lost a bit of weight prior to the BFP. So all I did was wear the clothes I'd grown out of, then buy the next size up in a couple of pieces when I got too big for them. It also helped that I was pregnant in the height of summer, so I could get away with wearing as little as I could. My bump wasn't huge until a few weeks into the third trimester as well.

This time, I threw in the towel at 13 weeks and bought some maternity wear. I hadn't managed to lose any weight before falling pregnant, so I didn't have any clothes to grow back into. Everything was becoming tight and very uncomfortable, so now I live in maternity leggings. Much happier for it. Just hope we have a mild winter this year.

I much prefer buying maternity, it’s more comfortable to me than sizing up and more flattering.

I do both as petite build and not a very prominent bump until much later than a lot of people!

Under bump maternity jeans with longer/baggier style top sized up if needed I find works well for me at this stage as I don't fill the bump part but normal tops ride up!

Go with what works for you and your body shape. It's more important that you're comfortable.

I bought maternity clothes that double as nursing clothes, and picked shapes that I think would work without a big bump also for afterwards. Did this from about 12 weeks, but most of my clothes were high waisted and fitted and so even the bobble trick and belly band wasn't working.

So much more comfy. I'm 23 weeks now and hardly any of even my next size up clothes fit me, just the maternity stuff. So I'm glad I got stuff and have had a few more weeks of use of it. There's lots on EBay or that you can rent also. The love leggings are the best maternity ones I've found, not at all see thru, and not too expensive. Then I just got a couple pairs of jeans, and 2-3 dresses that can be dressed up and down, and a couple of neutral tops. Hoping this little capsule will see me through

I sized up tshirts (and bought baggy styles) but bought maternity jeans, dresses and skirts (for work) at about 20 weeks with DS1 (needed much earlier with DS2, I think my stomach muscles weren’t interested in cooperating a second time). Lots of maternity wear on FB here, friends had success with eBay.

I did the same as @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 and bought a few key maternity pieces that were easy to mix and match and could be worn across seasons (eg a few dresses that could be worn with or without maternity leggings and a cardigan, maternity jeans, some simple tops in neutral colours). I also bought ones that were stretchy and could be used for nursing so that I will still get wear out of them when baby is born. My only regret is not having done sooner -- I was mostly just wearing my bigger & baggier pieces until around 21 weeks and I was starting to feel so horrible and frumpy. Treating myself to a few really nice new maternity pieces that made my bump look nice and not like I was trying to hide weight gain made me feel so much better!

I wore a size up in jeans at about 7/8 weeks due to bloating, so my regular jeans were too tight around the waist and uncomfortable. These were a bit baggy on the hips/bum though, so when my belly popped at about 13 weeks and got even bigger, there was no way that going up another size would have done! Invested in some maternity jeans then was a game changer! Fit perfectly around the bum and hips and comfortable and stretchy over the bump. Still wearing the same maternity jeans 3 months on and they'll probably do me until I'm term, unless I start piling on the weight and go up a dress size.
I wear the jeans with stretchy t shirts and cardigans. Can dress up with boots or dress down with trainers

You don't want a waistband over your bump so sizing up doesn't work long term. With a couple of pairs of jeans, trousers or leggings you'll be surprised how many floaty or loose non-maternity tops you can wear for quite a while. I did get about 3 maternity long sleeved t-shirt things from H&M that are really comfy. And a couple of dresses from ASOS & New Look which help for work.

Nothing felt like a waste as lots of things I wore after pregnancy and beyond; a jersey dress just stretches less and a belted shirt dress goes round waist instead of between bump & boobs. Plus now wearing it all again for number 2.

You'll be more comfortable in the clothes cut for a pregnant body and that's worth every penny.

I bought maternity clothes earlier this time around and so glad I did! I've been so much more comfier in them and feel better when wearing them.

I bought lots of different pieces online in the Next sale esp comfy bottoms and some gorgeous dresses and tops mega reduced. I have sized up on usual things like vest tops as don't see the point in paying extra for maternity versions when a size up will fit me okay. I usually just wear them around the house anyway or under a dress or top if particularly low cut.

Got maternity leggings in a sale from New Look that fit great. Usual size I was in beforehand.

I know that I won't suddenly be losing loads of weight as this pregnancy is really not long after having my previous child and I had a CS and was on the larger side with her so realistically I will need some assistance in holding it all in once this one arrives!

As I bought them months ago I've had heaps of wear out of them all. I will after as well. I wished I had bought more earlier with my other pregnancies as I found it so uncomfortable being stuck in bigger sized "normal" clothes and somewhat frumpy and just not myself at all. They didn't seem to sit right and I wasn't comfortable at all.

Even when I was a skinny size eight many years ago I went for maternity jeans as the bump was needing extra help/room. Very jealous looking back at those skinny days!
