Swinging/vibrating baby chair??

Hi all

I'm in two minds as to what kind of bouncing chair to buy... either what I would call a normal one where the baby's motion moves the chair or one that can provide either a vibrating/swinging motion.

I'm inclined to get a normal one as I've heard a lot of people say their baby didn't like the motion of the electronic chairs but I'm worried I'll regret this choice Confused what worked for you and what would you recommend? Also, if I'm going for a normal chair, are the baby bjorn's worth it compared to the cheaper £50/£60 ones?!

Thanks all! xx

We got the Mamas and Papas starlite swing chair.
He didn't like it at first but as he got older he enjoyed it and I found it great for when I needed to get afew jobs done.
My friend had the Mamaroo chair and I honestly didn't think it was worth the money as her LO didn't seem to last two mins in it.
I think these chairs are like anything, they enjoy them or they don't so I wouldn't spend a lot

Definitely get a swing. I got a bouncer and was a waste of money. DS' movements barely made it bounce so I would always need to bounce it. I couldn't get anything done.

I then get a swing with DS2 and it's been great. You can control how fast it swings to suit baby. I think the swings that swing side to side rather than back and forthmight suir babies who might not like the motion.

I asked this question among parents on my Instagram with a vote and a few said it was amazing for their baby's but most said it was a waste of money as their baby's hated it.
I've gone for a standard, inexpensive "bouncer" with the knowledge amazon can have one with us in 24 hours if he needs more to help him settle!!

I had a cheaper one but it vibrated. One baby loved it, the other didn’t. I don’t think you can predict it. The covers are usually washable so I’d try and get a fancy one second hand if I were doing it again, but at the time I was too busy to find one.

I bought two Joie wish bouncers for my twins. We have got a lot of use out of them, my daughters are five months old now. They seem to like being in them, and the batteries lasted about 3-4 months for each chair. We couldn't afford pricier models as we needed to buy two, and we also have limited space. I think they were a good purchase for us.

One of our best buys (not a bouncer) was £20 compared to the branded £150+ ones so I don’t think you need to spend a lot. We were given a Beaba Up & Down Bouncer secondhand. We get a lot of use out of it and DS likes “sitting” at the table with us but I wouldn’t have purchased one at £160 RRP.

We got a Joie Serina 2in1 for my dd (she's 18 months now). It was absolutely brilliant for the first 4-5 months. It swings, vibrates, can rotate it and plays it's own lullabies/white noise. It's pricy, but we got it second hand from Facebook marketplace for like £60. You can also lift the seat bit from the main swing, so I could carry her in it if she was sleeping to the kitchen/bathroom with me if need be (it is heavy though!).

EllieSattler · 03/10/2021 11:03

I bought a second hand swing from Facebook for £25 and sold it on for £30 so even if my baby hadn't loved it (he loved it) I was quids in.

We have one that you plug in and it rocks / swings. DD2 loves it. We got it on sale and it cost around £100. Well worth the money. But we also bought a mamaroo bassinet and she hates it. I mean, she sleeps well in it, but only when it's switched off Confused That was an epic waste of money.

I wouldn't bother with the swinging chairs, we asked at the toy shop which were returned most and the mechanical swing ones was the answer.
We've had the basic cheap bouncers with vibrations which are fine. This time we got the same but then swapped to fisher price infant to toddler rocker and took the basic one to my parents, it vibrates and rocks which is fab.

We had a secondhand baby bjorn, and found it well worth it – we liked being able to set it at different angles, and the fact that it folded completely flat for travel. I could even shove it on top of the pram basket if I was walking to a friend's house and needed somewhere to put baby whilst I was there.

We did need to bounce it ourselves when she was really small, but found it quite easy to do that with one foot whilst doing something else.

We just have the basic mamas and papas bouncer. It does have a vibrate option but it’s a bit much for a small baby I think so I’ve never used it. I’ve noticed a trend in all my friends who’s babies are a nightmare at bedtime (and during the night), they all have these all singing all dancing moving chairs they sit in for a chunk of every day. I think they’re only advised for max 20 minutes anyway when they’re small but I have the extremely basic chair for him, I don’t excessively rock him when I’m holding him and he’s out like a light every night at bang on 8pm. Up once for a quick bottle or sleeps all night. Hes just always been like this. He’s able to get himself back to sleep if he wakes and I think this is due to a good routine and not having repeatedly rocked all day in a swinging chair. I don’t doubt he’s probably a ‘good sleeper’ naturally too.

(Obviously some people aren’t fussed about a routine and are quite happy not having one but when I was pregnant I read books about routines and have found since he’s been born it works really well for both him and I and I’m getting more sleep than I got when I had a full time job 😂).

Ah my baby loved his swinging chair, it really calmed him down. It was a fisher price one.

ItsSnowJokes · 03/10/2021 20:12

My one loved the nuna leaf. Slept in that for hours!
