Molar pregnancy - anyone recently been diagnosed?

Hello,

I’m just wondering if anyone else has been recently diagnosed with a molar pregnancy (via Charring Cross) and if so, how long did it take?

I had my D&C 6 weeks ago now and the wait is agonising. I have spoken to my hospital and they couldn’t give any indication of how long it would take.

I’ve had a period and lots of negative tests so I feel like it has to be negative? But I just wish I could know for sure so I could put this horrible chapter to bed and try again.

Thank you

To be honest any info anyone can give would be hugely appreciated as I feel so in the dark.

I had a partial molar in March. I knew nothing about it until about 8 weeks after my D&C I got the letter from Charing Cross. I was very lucky In that my first samples were already negative (hcg low enough they consider it negative). I had to repeat the urine sample one month later and following that I was discharged.

I found charing cross to be excellent. They were super helpful on the phone when I first rang to enquire what on earth the letter was about, and then both times I had submitted samples they responded to my emails within a few minutes when I contacted them to check results. I hope your story is similarly successful @Partialmolarhelp. I fell pregnant again two weeks after getting the all clear, so it isn't always the long and frightening experience you read about. Wishing you all the best.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I feel quite teary reading about your experience as it really gives me hope. Also the 8 week timeline is super reassuring as I keep panicking that they’ve lost my samples or something.

And congratulations! I hope your pregnancy is going really well.

Molar pregnancyhelp hello, I am sorry you've been through this; I only had my D&C 14 days ago and still waiting on my results...It's so stressful...
Did you get your results now?
Sorry to ask but how was your bleeding after the surgery? I bled for the first 10days, than it stopped and now it's back again (14 days later). I don't seem to get any rest... I am exhausted...

Partialmolarhelp · 11/10/2021 12:05

@Busybee77AI sorry you’ve been through this too! It will be 7 weeks this week and still nothing. I hate the not knowing but I’ve had several negative tests and my period so I’m presuming it’s negative.

Mine was similar for the first 10 days and I thought I was anemic, I had zero energy for weeks. In fact I’m only now really feeling myself. I had a suspected hetero ectopic two weeks before so keyhole surgery and I think the two general anaesthetics and that first surgery plus the miscarriage compounded to make me feel terrible, so hopefully your fatigue won’t last as long!

But the starting up again is a bit concerning it it’s heavy. I’d definitely see the GP or EPU to ensure it’s not an infection, as I know bleeding restarting can be a sign of that.

Feel better soon and I hope you hear back ASAP. I’ll post in here when I hear so you have an idea of the timescales at the moment.

I know someone who did. I think she waited around 8-9 weeks for her results - this was a couple of months ago. I hope you get answers soon OP x

Busybee77AI · 11/10/2021 20:37

@partialmolarhelp oh no, you have been through so much... I am so sorry... I hope you get your results in the next few days so at least you know where you are standing. The wait is horrible... I hope it's good news as your tests are negative and you've already had your period. Sounds like it's all going the right way.

Thank you for your advice; I knew something was up when I started bleeding again, been to the EPC and unfortunately there is still some retaining tissue which they would like me to naturally pass (check up again in a week). It's probably why I am still getting a positive pregnancy tests...
I will keep you posted .
❤️❤️❤️

P.S. I am 44 and still hopeful for another healthy baby

Not recently, but I had a partial molar, dealt with by Sheffield. I first knew about it around 6 to 8 weeks after a miscarriage, but luckily they did seem to get everything at the d and c. I had 12 months follow up of monthly testing, with a view to further treatment if needed. It was all well communicated, and, for me, organised and straightforward. Emotionally, it was a stressful time. Good luck OP 💐

Partialmolarhelp · 11/10/2021 21:22

@Busybee77AI oh poor you! I can imagine it just feels a bit endless at the moment but I’m glad you’ve been seen and they are monitoring you. I hope it all passes soon and you’re feeling ok!

For what it’s worth I’ve heard of lots of people (during my frantic googling) who went on to have successful pregnancies after a molar, if it does turn out that’s the case. Hang in there, hopefully this will all be a distant memory at some point.

I have had previous losses but was distracted by the specifics of this one and my first period really caught me off guard. It was a couple of weeks ago and my hormones and low mood went haywire. Hopefully yours won’t be too far away but do take care of yourself and allow for a bit of headspace at that time.

@gluenotsoup thank you for sharing, it’s really useful to hear that it was 6-8 weeks even without Covid. I’m so glad they routinely test for this because I had no idea about it until they mentioned it to me.

Glad you’re ok and out the other side of it!

@Busybee77AI and yes please do! It’s nice to speak with people who are going through it as it feels so lonely. Although of course I wish none of us were.

I had to take 4 weeks off in total and not many people know why, so that’s been hard to explain. The people I’ve told about the molar stuff had never heard of it either, it’s a lot to take in.

Hi there, no recent experience, but back in February 2014 I had a partial molar. It's really good your HCG has gone down so quickly OP. I was also under Charing Cross at the time and agree with the other posters, they were quick to respond to my emails and questions.

It was a very difficult, lonely time and I found it all really, really hard. Hard to explain to friends that it wasn't just a 'normal' miscarriage, hard to get my head round what it meant and frustrating to do the follow-up. When I think back to that time it was one of the darkest places I have gone to, so do get the support and the care you need to pull through it. I chose to do therapy and that was very very helpful.

The good news is you won't be alone for subsequent pregnancies; you will be sent for early reassurance scans around 8 weeks to rule out another molar. I won't lie and say having a molar or a partial molar doesn't change you. It does, it makes you more aware of fluke accidents and what can go wrong and it means you don't take a healthy, viable pregnancy for granted. It is a huge relief to see that flickering heartbeat at the EPAU and for me, that, rather than the positive pregnancy test, was when I started feeling pregnant. I am now 22 weeks with my second child- the first was born the year after my molar.

Get care, get rest, get headspace. It is hard and lonely and sad and people often don't understand how difficult it is to do all the follow-up and wait for results. It's not like a 'normal' miscarriage where you can just try again in a cycle or two. It is very emotionally draining, especially all the uncertainty. All the best, look after yourself OP.

@Partialmolarhelp you are so kind to take the time to answer; bless you ❤️
I do wish you a very speedy recovery, good news from the hospital and I wish all your dreams to come true.

Any news lovely?
Been thinking of you.
I am still waiting too...
I went in for a scan (4 weeks after D&C) and they found retained tissue (around 18mm big); they are hoping my body will expel this on its own). I am still getting faint positive lines...:-(

Hi everyone,

Just looking for reassurance, I was told yesterday that the missed miscarriage I experienced in August was a molar. There was such a back log it has taken since 22nd Aug (when I had first medical management) for the results to come back. I had to have second medical management as the cells and tissue didn’t all pass abs I started bleeding heavily 5 days after the first. 3 weeks later I still had positive pregnancy test and then got scanned and there were still remaining tissues. Had a D&C to clear the final amount. It came as such a shock being told it was a molar yesterday. We had started trying again so I could potentially be pregnant - due on my period a week today. All my periods have been normal since the d&c and I have taken pregnancy tests the last 2 months and all are negative. Hoping that someone can reassure me while I wait for the referral to Charing Cross that my levels should be back to normal considering I have been getting negative tests and normal periods? Thank you 🙏🏻
