41 weeks - any hope of a natural labour?

Hi all

I’m deflated and disheartened while I write this post. I’m 41 weeks so overdue by a week now and no real signs of labour.

Is there any hope? I was really hoping for it to happen by now.

Thanks all

Have you had a sweep? I went into my 3rd labour at 41 weeks after having a sweep.
My other 2 labours were 40+ weeks so I think I am just not ready to give birth before then and nothing I did was going to change it.
Walking, birthing ball and no lying back are supposedly good for getting baby in a good position but I don't think they'll bring on Labour before you are ready for it.

My midwife told me to get down on my hands and knees and scrub the kitchen floor! Did this one evening and it worked - contractions started at 4 the following morning, 40+1!

DC2 was 41 weeks, I was 2cm dilated on Monday, Wednesday went to bed and still no symptoms, Thursday morning I woke up at 5am to contractions and was fully dilated by 7am. I had though taken our poor dog for a very aggressive walk on Wednesday, well as aggressive as a heavily pregnant lady can match!

MissSmiley · 01/10/2021 16:26

With my first I went into labour naturally at 42+1
Has the OP vanished?

RoseAndGeranium · 01/10/2021 16:54

@AnyHopee Yes, it definitely could. With my first I had had zero symptoms beyond a few minor Braxton Hicks contractions and then on the day itself I woke up with unmistakeable contractions and gave birth later that day. This time there were no symptoms really and then my waters broke, contractions started within an hour or two, and baby arrived soon after. Really hoping one or the other happens for you ASAP!

RoseAndGeranium · 01/10/2021 16:56

Oo maybe OP vanished because she went into labour!

sociallydistained · 01/10/2021 16:57

@Musmerian

42 + 3 with my third. I had independent midwives and a home birth so no pressure to induce. In the end the dates are notional and everyone is different. You don’t have to agree to induction if everything is ok.
I am planning a homebirth but not independent midwife. I really hate the idea of induction and the pressure. I really want to say no (I’m a way off yet, due Jan)
HyphenCobra · 02/10/2021 04:40

40+12 waters broke few days before. 40+10 zero signs, just woke up to contractions!

AnyHopee · 02/10/2021 05:24

Update - it happened naturally today 🎉 so there is hope for those in a similar situation - please don’t give up. I was so deflated and didn’t see it coming. It really does happen in it’s own time when your body is ready. Thank you all for your positive stories and for keeping me going x

Omg huge congratulations! Hope you're feeling well.
I'm 40+2 with my third, both others born at exactly 41 weeks so patiently waiting!

I needed this thread today! 40+3 with absolutely no signs 😞 had a failed sweep Wednesday. So disheartening as I really would like to avoid a induction. I feel like he’s never going to make an appearance

Rainydays890 · 02/10/2021 10:32
