Hi all

I have just found out that I am approx 4 weeks pregnant (first 1), was planned and very happy about it. I will be a high risk pregnancy as I am 40 in the next few weeks, I am also v overweight (20stone) and have a couple of health issues so on a few meds.

I have a couple of questions, my head has gone from excitement to morbid mode, I was convinced I wouldnt even get pregnant, so now I am like every other woman worrying about miscarriage. How do you put it out of your mind? How do you chill!!?? My head is constantly spinning!! Also I have been having a very full and slightly uncomfortable feeling in my stomach, like something is pulling for the last few days. GP said thats normal, but how long does this kind of things last for? Im terrified!!

Thanks all x

Hiya OP, congrats on your pregnancy :) I can say that for me the worry of miscarrying mostly went away around the same time I started feeling little movements and saw my baby looking healthy at the 20 week scan. It was very much a case of just feeling reasured by movements as they got stronger and more frequent, it's the most amazingly weird feeling 😂 My morning sickness started around week 6/7 and while horrendous also gave me a little assurance that things were progressing. The pulling feeling is absolutely something that happens and mine probably lasted until around 8/9 maybe even 10 weeks, sometimes had to take a break at work because it became so intense. So many weird things that come with pregnancy, a lot of searching on mumsnet for similar experiences 😂x

Laura0021 thanks so much, it is all very weird. I feel like I have a constant pulling and dull ache, you just worry that its not right dont you. I guess it makes perfect sense really. 20 weeks feels forever away, I have only known a couple of days and its dragged so much already! Appreciate your reply, thank you!

@maggiemoo1981 that pulling sensation you are feeling in your uterus is due to expanding of uetrus. I had these feeling alot especially in first 3 months and i was freaking out that i am going to have miscarriage. Don't worry, try to relax and enjoy your journey. Good luck to you 💐

The pulling feeling is completely normal. But always get checked out if you are not sure.

Congratulations x

Welcome to parenthood - there is no chill. Not now, not ever!

Just focus on making it to the next day, in the early days that’s all I could do xxx

Thank you all so much, its very comforting to hear others have gone through this stuff. Its a rollercoaster isn't it, I was worried about symptoms, now they are settling and that worry's me its something wrong (no pleasing me I guess lol). Thanks all, appreciate your responses and well wishes xx

I thought I would update this as it drives me mad when I read threads and people dont post the outcome. I had an early scan due to some pain, they wanted to rule out an ectopic. Great news is all is well so far, now at 10+2, thanks everyone for your support x

Glad you’re doing well! I’m not sure the worrying ever fully went away for me( not helped by the fact I had zero symptoms and had an anterior placenta so it took longer to feel movements) but it felt like it eased a bit with each hurdle - 12 week scan, 20 week scan, viability point, 37 weeks getting to full term, etc. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Smile

maggiemoo1981 · 09/11/2021 12:46

@RobinPenguins, same really I still have plenty whirling around in my head, its never ended, there are new decisions and things to consider every day (or so it fells like!). Thank you

If age (which you can do nothing about) and your weight are concerns can you do anything about your weight.

I’m not suggesting going on a diet!!!! I mean can you try not to gain weight during pregnancy as is often recommended to those overweight (this is all with doctor/midwife support) would that help with some of the worry?

maggiemoo1981 · 09/11/2021 13:25

@cakequeen88 absolutely, I have already lost 4 stone and I am continuing with my healthy eating and closely monitoring my weight, but I cant really make a big impact, perhaps in the same way as I was doing now. But yes I am doing and continuing my regular personal training sessions etc (with approval from midwife)
