Am I the only one worried about telling work?

I am 15 weeks and looking very fat! I need to tell work soon, but I am unreasonably worried about it. I really enjoy my job and I am worried about my boss having to find someone else and train them up. I know it's not my problem, and its my right to take maternity leave, but I can't help worrying. My big boss, who is the firms accountant, has told me what a pain it is for him when people go on maternity leave. I think he was only joking, but it has made me worried. And regardless of all that, I just can't seem to find the right opportunity to bring it up; 'morning, littlelamb' 'morning. By the way....'

if you're worried about training someone up (and thats really good of you but it is there problem), can you not have the conversation around there is something you need to know (I'm pregnant) but then go onto discuss how you can help with handing over to/training someone else. That way you're easing your conscience but also making it clear that although you are pregnant you are still taking your job seriously.

Take no notice of your big boss - he is just voicing what lots of people think and think how grateful he should be if/when you decide to come back.

hey little, i was v worried about telling work too. didnt tell til 17wks - was convinced people would think i couldnt do my job properley

looking back, i was completely nuts at the early stages of pg and telling work was a real turning point for me going back to not-nuts

eveyone will be v happy for you and its so exciting to spread the news, gl! dont sweat the other stuff.

I know exactly how you feel. I felt just the same and I am a partner in my firm! However, when I did tell people they were very sweet with their congratulations so I am sure it will be fine. (Although I did tell one of my clients the other day and their congratulations came somewhat through gritted teeth..)
And as an employer too I can assure you that most employers just accept that maternity leave happens and they don't make a fuss about it. So don't be worried!

And by the way, I am 17 wks pg so we will have similar due dates!

I'm 17 weeks pg too and only told my work this week as well. They were great about it, I'd convinced myself they wouldnt be. They couldnt have been nicer and are even talking about organising a baby shower!
My advice is to try and do it asap, trust me you will feel so releaved and it will never be as bad as you expected. (this is from the girl who only told her family + friends this week that she was 17 weeks pg as she was terrified of their reaction! - they were over the moon!)

Hi littlelamb, don't feel bad about the fact that you have to take materity leave - it is your right to do so and bosses should not say such things - it is highly unprofessional, not too mention discriminatory. Whether he was joking or not I think it is a subject employers should steer well clear of.
