Aspirin - bedtime or evening?

Hi,

I've been prescribed Aspirin by my consultant and told to take it at bedtime with something to eat.

I have been taking it with my evening meal around 6pm. Is that okay or should it be strictly before I go to bed?

Thank you

As long as you take it with food it doesn't matter really. It's best with food as can upset your stomach, and damage stomach lining. I always took mine at breakfast time!

Echoing PP. They usually say take it at bed time with drugs that commonly cause nausea/sickness/drowsiness, so that you can sleep through it basically.

@HalloHello @Ritchie311

Thank you for the quick replies.

Quite a while to my next consultant appointment so thought best to ask here.

I'm supposed to start this at 12 weeks too. I think the important thing is taking it with food and at the same time every day. Grin

lawandgin · 26/09/2021 21:46

I'm on 75mg aspirin after weaning off blood thinning injections - no one told me to take it with food so I'm glad I saw this thread!

MrsS89K · 26/09/2021 22:02

I’ve been taking it since July, usually have it an hour or 2 before dinner. Never knew you are meant to take it with food, ooops!

Babyghirl · 26/09/2021 22:06

@GreenShades
I was told to take it at night time cause it reduces the risk of clots in the morning just the way they say to take it to prevent a heart attack on the morning. Cause ur not maving around as much at night as you do in the day.

GreenShades · 26/09/2021 22:18

@lawandgin @MrsS89K oh no! Well the box and leaflet both say to take with something to eat as it can irritate stomach.

@Babyghirl my prescription says bedtime too but I don't know what to eat with it so just have with evening meal instead.

@GreenShades I naively thought my ivf clinic would have told me if there were any "special instructions" but I've just taken tonight's with some chocolate so all is not lost Grin

DappledOliveGroves · 26/09/2021 22:22

I'm 19 weeks' pregnant and I'm taking it last thing at night, just before I go to sleep. Not sure if the timing is right - was told to take it in the evening.

Babyghirl · 26/09/2021 22:22

@GreenShades
Maybe a breakfast bar or a round of toast or bowl of cereal.

My pharmacist guides me on when to take various prescribed medications.

Cafeaulait27 · 27/09/2021 04:35

I have mine straight after dinner so on a full stomach xx

MeAndZig · 27/09/2021 10:25

I take it with my evening meal but there is a recent study that suggests you take it in the evening rather than in the day or just with a full stomach. I normally take it at 6pmish too.

Ameteurmum · 28/09/2021 20:44

I take mine before I go up to bed - didn’t know you had to take with food. I’ve been doing it for 18 weeks 🙈🤦🏼‍♀️

dg93 · 28/09/2021 21:15

So I was only ever told to take it with food, never told to take it in the evening!! So glad I saw this 😬

dorothygaleandtoto · 28/09/2021 22:27

I've been taking mine before bed, but what I didn't know (or failed to read) was the word 'dispersible' on the packet. Apparently to be dissolved in water before swallowing. I'd just been swallowing them until I read it properly. I told the midwife at my last appointment and she just said "oh well, you're still with us" !!

GreenShades · 29/09/2021 06:38

@dorothygaleandtoto oh no 😂 glad you are still with us! I only came to ask about the time to take but I'm finding it more concerning with all the stories of how and when people take the tablets. I hope everyone rechecks their medication leaflets or gets further advice!
