Covid Vaccine Booster

Hi all
I just wondered if anyone is in a similar position and has been offered the covid vaccine booster? I know I’m very fortunate to have been offered it so soon (frontline NHS worker) but I’m very undecided on what to do. I had both my vaccines prior to falling pregnant so didn’t have this dilemma before. I have read the guidelines and information but still feel torn. Just wondering if anyone is in a similar situation and what they were going to do?

@SouthwestSis I just got mine at a local pharmacy. Just being nosey, are you working from home from 28 weeks?

Sarahloo88 · 10/10/2021 16:55

@thingymaboob I’m the same nearly 25 weeks it’s driving me nuts. The thought of having that and feeling crappy from the booster was too much at the moment. Hopefully in a few weeks.
Hope it eases for you. I’ve started on Cyclezine and Metochlopramide and it’s made a difference. I was being sick around 20 times a day and now only 3-5 times!

Not pregnant had Covid booster and flu vaccine on Wednesday, fewer side effects than either 2nd dose or flu vaccine last year. Just one day of feeling not great.

SouthwestSis · 10/10/2021 16:59

@thingymaboob no I'm choosing to stay f2f until 34 weeks as a compromise.
Being triple vaccinated will reduce my risk of working face to face, I am already seeing lower risk patients, and I know the work I'll be given to do from home will be utterly boring. Plus I'm a very sociable person and like the routine of physically going to work, plus it keeps my step count up and being physically active for longer in pregnancy really helps with labour and birth!

@SouthwestSis i don’t know if all health boards are offering but I’m NHS and they are doing the covid booster and flu vaccine all in one go if you want it. May be worth asking

I had my booster last week (I'm in healthcare) - didn't even have an achey arm this time.

Seeing in the news today about unvaccinated pregnant women making up 1/6 people on a ventilator due to Covid... and talking to a paediatrician who said they are very worried about the number of poorly newborns they are admitting with Covid... I'm incredibly grateful to be able to have my booster. Although I'm double vaccinated, that was back in April and we know immunity wanes a bit, so I wanted the booster to keep my immunity up during pregancy.

I'm asking my midwife about the booster at my appointment tomorrow!

Sarahloo88 · 21/10/2021 11:38

Well I just got my booster and flu vaccine. Anyone had it? If so what were you side effects (if any) after?

Getting my booster this afternoon! Had the flu vaccine a couple of weeks ago - other than a slightly sore arm I didn't have any issues with it.

Dyra · 21/10/2021 12:45

Getting my booster in just over a week, so let me know how you get on! 😅 Had my flu a couple of weeks back, and had no side effects. Not even a sore arm!

Bananapancakes6 · 21/10/2021 12:52

I had my first dose while TTC, and second dose when I was 15 weeks pregnant (there was a big gap due to changes in advice) I'd jump at the chance for a booster.

BambiOnIce80 · 21/10/2021 13:33

I'm NHS, 8 months past second dose of Pfizer and 31 weeks pregnant. I discussed whether to have the third dose at my consultant appointment and we agreed it'd be safer for me (given my profession and my commute on public transport) to take the third dose ASAP. I had my third Pfizer dose a week and a bit ago. Arm was only a fraction as sore as the first couple of times and no other side effects. I was offered the flu jab at the same time but decided to wait until 4 weeks later (at my next midwife appointment) for a couple of reasons. Loads of our workforce that have had both jabs together have felt really rough, to the point of needing to take time off sick, so I didn't fancy that on top of being pregnant. Secondly, we haven't had any positive cases of flu in my area yet so the general consensus at work is that it's still a bit early to have the vaccine and it'd be better (antibody v's peak of flu season wise) to have the flu jab in November. Hope this helps anybody who's still making their minds up about whether to take both at the same time.

Derbee · 21/10/2021 13:39

I’m not eligible for a booster, but I’d jump at the chance. First dose before pregnancy,
Second dose at 6 weeks. My 6 month immunity coverage will end in Jan, and I’ll have to go into hospital in March to give birth. I’d love to have the booster in Jan. Would even pay privately if it was an option

aNewYorkerInLondon · 21/10/2021 14:04

@BambiOnIce80, its great to know that the NHS will make exceptions based on circumstances

thingymaboob · 21/10/2021 15:01

I had my Pfizer booster last week. Sore arm and tired. There's no way I'd have left it, given what's happening with all those poor women in ICU

68degreesnorth · 21/10/2021 17:05

Oh I definitely would get a booster. Neither you nor the baby wants to die of Covid!

68degreesnorth · 21/10/2021 17:06

@Derbee I'm due in March too and would have loved a booster if I could have one!

Derbee · 21/10/2021 22:21

@68degreesnorth I’d be tempted to volunteer at a vaccine centre and have one of the left over vaccines at the end of the day. Not sure they’d want a 7 month pregnant lady waddling around directing traffic!

68degreesnorth · 22/10/2021 07:15

@Derbee 😂 good idea though!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 30/11/2021 09:23

As I'm over 40, I got my Pfizer booster on Saturday (I was 17+3 on Saturday). On Sunday and Monday I had a headache, soreness, and was super tired. No fever. Pretty much stayed in bed both days. At around 5pm yesterday I felt a lot better and feel good today. I'm so pleased to be protecting myself and my son. Now I just hope they find it's effective against Omicron!!

Poochie86 · 15/12/2021 09:00

@Sarahloo88 how you getting on? I’m interested as I’m TTC (mid cycle) and I had my booster yesterday. I hope you are all Ok and baby growing well xx

Sarahloo88 · 15/12/2021 09:07

@Poochie86 all going well! 34 weeks tomorrow. Baby growing well and pregnancy all normal. I had my covid vaccine and flu vaccine in one go back in October. No side effects other than a dead arm! Now I’m glad I had it done especially with all this new uncertainty!
Good luck with your journey! Sending you lots of luck and hope you are feeling fine after your booster xx
