My baby was partially engaged head down last week but i found yesterday that he or she is now breech.how likely is it that the baby will stay breech at this stage or is it very likely that it will turn still

thanks

Hi, baby may turn still as know a few mums whose baby's turn at the last minute however both of mine were breech all the way - hence two c sections - speak to your MW if you are concerned.

DS was in all sorts of positions until about 36 weeks I think - I was being seen quite often due to high blood pressure and he was a different way round everytime.

I felt a big movement one day and he went head down and stayed that way .

There are ways you can sit etc that encourage babies to be head down - I think they include sitting backwards on a chair (ie like a cowboy) and being on your hands and knees a lot. I am sure other people will come along who know more about them.

I would say it is very likely your baby will turn again.

There's still time for the baby to turn. Dd was breech until 36wks, transverse at 37wks and then head-down the following week.

Good luck.

Plenty of time to turn still. Have a look at www.spinningbabies.com for suggestions on getting babies to turn.

a friend of mine had her baby breech a cpl of days ago at 36 wks
Fast easy labour, a couple of stitches only.
But other posters are right, babies can turn quite late in the day

google optimal foetal positioning and get some useful tips

DD was breech until 35+6. When she turned I think labour was triggered and she was born three days later.

I was expecting a CS and was very surprised when she turned so late. Gynae says it's due to a less than toned uterus and tummy muscles having already had two big babies.

tons of time to turn yet...it's one of the reasons why they dont do ecv's til about 37 weeks.

there was a breech watch a while back and mums were trying moxi sticks acupuncture etc. to encourage turning.

my mw terrified me with threats of a caesarean when my dd was breach at 32 or 33 weeks. Either the baby turned and I didn't feel a thing or the mw was wrong. A week later a scan for something else showed the baby head down. First pregnancy too.

From what I remember (I was a bit panicked at the time) 9 out of 10 babies that are breach at 33 weeks will turn head-down beore delivery. I also remember reading the nice guidelines which said mws shouldn't be discussing the babies position until 35 or 36 weeks precisely becuase it unnecessarily frightens a lot of women. My memory is a bit hazy now.

The vast majority of babies turn on their own and I think it only becomes a potential concern after 36 weeks.

My last was only discovered to be breech at 38+5 weeks but the consultant managed to turn her without any difficulty so all was fine.

My mum told me the other day that I was breech until about 5 days before I was born - turned round in about 20 mins one evening - not very comfortable apparently!!

fabmrsv · 07/12/2007 09:52

thanks so much for all your advice. the good news is that the baby has turned upside down again so he or she is no longer breech which is great!! however i will keep your advice in case it decides to turn again

thanks again
