Up all night vomiting- is it listeria? Who do I call? Advice please

Hiya,

I’m 32 weeks and woke up at 3am with tummy cramps and what I thought was horrid acid reflux, went downstairs to take some of my reflux meds and as soon as I did, barely made it to the loo to projectile vomit in, this carried on for a while. Obviously I feel rotten but the nausea has passed as have the cramps. I don’t have a temp.
I don’t eat the foods that listeria is a high risk for, only thing I could think was DH bought a bag of apples and two were mouldy and yucky so I binned them and kept the others, went to have one of the good ones last night (washed it) of course but thought it tasted off, so only had a bite and then chucked it.

Do I call 111? Triage? Or no one? Xx

Start with triage for advice

LillyBugg · 25/09/2021 09:42

You could call triage but listeria seems a bit of a jump. More likely norovirus or similar OP.

Isabellabasil · 25/09/2021 09:48

Doesn't sound typical for listeria OP. But if you're worried call triage. Listeria is rare, whereas other sick bugs are common.

Call triage. Its unlikely to be listeria though. May be norovirus or even if food poisoning likely to be ecoli or samonella which are less dangerous to baby.

They'll probably tell you to stay hydrated and beyond that not much they can do. But call and check with them

For what it's worth my sister has awful food poisoning whilst pregnant and my niece is a healthy six year old today.

Just sounds like a gastro bug and unlikely to be listeria. Keep fluids up, eat bland foods if you feel like it and get some rest. If you feel you're getting dehydrated then get some rehydration sachets e.g. dioralyte

WhyOhWhyOhWhyyyy · 25/09/2021 09:57

More likely to be a stomach bug or food poisoning then listeria, which is quite rare.
I had a nasty 24hr vomiting bug recently at 36 weeks pregnant and it was just awful, so you have my sympathy.
I think the most important thing is to keep well hydrated (try rehydration sachets), get plenty of rest and eat what you can (try really plain food, breadsticks were the easiest thing for me). Call your midwife or triage if you are concerned.

Thanks lovlies!

Called triage they said basically sucks and can’t do anything. And sucks it does, i can barely keep water down 😭😭 AND my skinny Minnie 2 year old has started being sick and refusing food too! Last thing the girl needs.

Anyone got any tips on how to ensure a toddler has something at least? Luckily she can keep fluids down but is pocketing food in her mouth like she’s afraid to swallow xx

As only as your toddler is taking fluids then don’t worry about food.

Our whole household has just gotten over a case of norovirus (thanks DSs nursery!). Toddler is only just nibbling on things, as long as your DD is taking in plenty of fluids, don't worry about it. I hope you're both feeling better soon

Oh wonderful! We’re feeling sorry for ourselves over here lol!

Thank you! Poor little lady happened on her 2nd birthday too so all her plans got cancelled xxx

If your daughter is now being sick then it sounds like norovirus or some other stomach bug.

Do not worry about food at the moment, fluids are much more important.

Lots of fluids and rest is what you both need right now. Hope you both feel better soon.
