Taking aspirin in pregnancy

I had a consultant appointment today and he wanted to put me on aspirin & said I should have been taking it all along for my blood pressure. I’m 32 weeks & seen several different consultants already but this has never been mentioned before! I declined it as there has never been an issue with my blood pressure in this or my previous 3 pregnancies. For background I am 40, already on daily clexane injections because of family history of blood clots and recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes.

Has anyone else been advised to take aspirin?

Not me but pretty sure it's common for pregnant woman with high blood pressure as a way of helping to prevent pre eclampsia. ( could be for a different reason but I am 100% sure it's very common)

With my first pregnancy I had to take aspirin from around 25 weeks till the end of my pregnancy due to multiple complications. My friend also had to take aspirin in her pregnancy. Both our children were born healthy and absolutely fine. If i was told again to take it in pregnancy then i would.

Also me and my friend hadn't got anything wrong with our blood pressure. I had to take it to help with the blood flow to the baby I believe

I was told.tontske it, I can't even remember exactly why now. I think because of my age (40) and maybe family history. In the last weeks they put ke on clexane injections and said I should have been on them all along too, I very nearly declined those but went with it in the end 'just in case'. I had a really healthy pregnancy and DD was absolutely fine although the birth was a bit of a shitshow but for none of the 'risk factor' reasons. Ultimately though I was too scared to go against advice even if I didn't totally agree.

It's to prevent pre eclampsia if you have high blood pressure. I've also been on aspirin but this was because my first was small and they thought maybe the placenta wasn't getting enough blood flow.

There's been a few threads about asprin lately. I took it from 12 to 32 weeks on advice of the consultant. There are a series of risk factors that they use to weigh up the risk / benefit considerations in using asprin to reduce preeclampsia risk. For me, it included the fact that i have PCOS and baby was conceived using letrozole as well as my age, BP on the higher side of normal and the scan showing that blood flow through the cord was not as optimal as it could have been. At 36 weeks, my scan showed that baby had dropped below the 10th centile and at 37 weeks, my BP went from normal to 155/110 within 3 days, so it does look like the asprin was having some positive effect for me. Preeclampsia isn't something i was willing to mess about with so i saw no reason to challenge consultant advice.

I have been on it from 12 weeks as had previously small baby so this was to support blood flow, all good, been off it for a week (as thought had to come off at 36 weeks, apparently not these days) and had a really bad Doppler reading today with them having been perfect up til now. Could be a coincidence of course but...

So basically if you've been told to take it by a consultant, I'd be taking it.

I had pre-existing high bp and was advised by my midwife to take aspirin from my booking appt or possibly 12 weeks, can't remember. I wasn't older or overweight. I saw lots of doctors (as I developed other complications) and they all knew I was on aspirin. I did end up with pre-eclampsia anyway, but maybe the aspirin held it off a little.

I'm ttc with ivf/ gynaecologists and sometimes they tell me to take aspirin during a cycle. I don't think it can do any harm in such a low dose so you might as well.

It can’t do harm unless you’ve had a stomach ulcer or something in the past, I would take it to help with placenta function. Apparently towards the end the placenta starts to work less well anyway, particularly in older women, so needs all the help it can get really.

I’m taking it in this pregnancy after 2 previous losses, it seems to have worked for me as I’m now 37 weeks with a healthy baby x

I’m 39 and had my fourth baby 3 weeks ago.

I took aspirin daily from ovulation until 36 weeks.

I initially started taking it off my own back as I’d had several miscarriages, but once I saw my midwife at 9 weeks she spoke with my consultant who advised that had I not already been taking it she would have started me on it. This was due to my age, my slightly raised blood pressure, and my slightly higher bmi.

The consultant advised I take it (150mg a day) until 36 weeks (a week before my scheduled c section).

All was perfect.
