Have my waters broken?

Hi everyone.

I'm 39 weeks and for the past 3 or 4 hours have been having some very mild cramping but also I'm finding it difficult to hold my urine in. This is my 2nd baby and had my waters broken for me the first time I honestly don't know or remember what its like. I just keep getting this jolted feeling and I dribble and then have to go to the toilet and pee so I think, I've had no gush or anything but as soon as I stand up from the toilet i need to sit back down again as i feel i need to pee and some water comes out. How did you know your waters broke?

When my waters went i remember feeling so much pressure to go for a wee. Went to the toilet and then just couldn't stop what I thought might be wee. I had no control and realised it was my waters which was gushing everywhere. Other people say they experience just a trickle.
Good luck!

My waters broke in a big gush (a bit like pp, i woke up feeling like i might have wet the bed, went to go to the loo and a big gush came just as i reached the bathroom!), but i remember my midwife saying to me beforehand that if you are unsure, lie down for a while and then stand up. If you get some leakage then that is probably waters and not urine. This is because the waters pool and then are released by gravity, whereas urine wouldnt, if that makes sense? If you are unsure, you should be able to ask for them to be checked. You can either wear a pad and then take it in to be examined, or they can do a physical exam.

It sounds more like you have just got some pressure on your bladder, which is causing that "need to pee" sensation.

When your waters break you normally don't get any sensation of needing to pee - the water just pours out , either in a huge gush or a slow trickle. You have no control over it at all.

Mine started with small gushes every time I got up and moved around, couldn't control the little gushes, they would just happen. Contractions started around an hour later and my waters went fully in one giant gush two hours after that. My friend went for a wee in the night and thought it was a really big wee and that turned out to be her waters, so both very different

I'd phone triage to see if you can get checked - they'll use a speculum to see. Sounds exciting!! Flowers

You should go the the labour ward and get checked out. They can give you a pad to see if it is urine or amniotic fluid.

If your water has broken, you need to give birth within 24 hours or they will give you antibiotics.

I had something similar with my third. I was leaking amniotic fluid and nobody realised. When I gave birth there was no water left. Luckily DD was ok. I felt awful for weeks after. We were both very lucky.

Waters smell sweet too! Good luck!

I would place more reliance on the cramping, and if there's a pattern to that rather than just constant?
