Wisdom tooth trouble

Hi all,

I started feeling a little run down last night and my jaw was aching, I though I must be grinding my teeth again and the muscles are tender. So I tried massaging my jaw but it didn't do anything. Eventually I had to take some paracetamol so I could sleep. Usually I take some ibuprofen when this happens and it settles it down, but I can't take anti-inflammatories now. This morning I woke up feeling like I had the flu! Crazy fatigue, super sore jaw only on one side. After having a look inside my mouth I've noticed the gum covering my wisdom tooth on my left side is noticeably red and swollen, so I don't think it's muscular after all but wisdom tooth related!

I've booked a dental appointment for Tuesday, but what can I do in the mean time to cope? The pain I can manage, but I have stuff on this weekend and I need energy, can't be feeling like this! I'm only 5+4 so tiredness is normal, but this is the first time in this pregnancy that I've felt so utterly rubbish!

Is the dentist aware of the pain and swelling - can they get you in earlier as an emergency? It may be infected, in which case you may well need antibiotics to clear it up.

Gargling with salt water can help sometimes.

I'm meant to be going away for the weekend so would prefer to get through the weekend first. I'm feeling a little better now. They had an appointment tomorrow morning, but the trouble now is that I went to get a covid test this morning just in case because of the fatigue and slight temperature, and am unlikely to get the results back before the appointment. I'm fairly sure it's not covid, but I also don't want to be reckless!

Have you caught it when flossing or brushing ?
Two of mine aren’t fully through and I occasionally get pain and swelling.

Yes a bit of it is poking through but it's mostly still covered. I don't get floss in there though as it's still mostly covered, but I try to brush around it as best as I can. I think they're pointing forwards too so a private dentist some years ago recommended getting them out but as they weren't causing any problems back then I didn't want to spend the hundreds of pounds it would've cost. My current dentist isn't so trigger happy and said not to worry about it until they start causing issues.
