Hey! So I'm exactly 38 pregnant and for the last 3 days I've been having a very debilitating stabbing pain under my right shoulder blade which has been getting progressively worse every day. Its at its worst during the night but it is constantly there. Doesn't feel like muscle pain and stretches or massages do nothing to help.

I phoned my maternity A&E this morning and they told me to go to my GP for a full assessment and then come in to them if GP thinks it's necessary. Unfortunately my GP is extremely busy today and can't see me so I'm not sure whether to go in to the hospital anyway or to wait for my preexisting GP appointment tomorrow afternoon. It's 2 weeks since I last had a midwifery appointment and I won't have another one until the start of October.

Also, I'm not certain but I think the baby is now lying at an angle. I can feel something big under my right ribs which I suspect is his bum and something big and hard above my left hip which I think is his head. Is this something which should be checked out at 38 weeks pregnant? At my last midwife appointment (at 36 weeks) they said he was head down but bum was over on my right side.

Sorry that this turned out so long! I'm a FTM so don't know if I'm making a big deal out of nothing.....maybe I'm supposed to be in pain at this stage? I hate going in and wasting people's time but I'm worried about what's causing the pain and id really love if I could get some stronger painkillers to get me through it. I'm taking paracetamol but it's not helping much.

Yes, I think i would go. You know your own body and something is clearly not right for you to be concerned. Most likely it’s nothing to worry about, but I think it’s best to be cautious at 38 weeks. Good luck

I absolutely think you should go in and get checked out. I don't know how it works with you, but I used to be able to ring the maternity unit and they would let me come in - can you do That?
I wouldn't wait until tomorrow, I would just go now, I know that they would rather see you and it be nothing than you feel that you can't go in and see them.
