Got a positive test but extremely worried

Hi guys. I had an early loss at 5.5 weeks last month and never got a period after. The bleeding stopped on the 20th of last month and I got a strong line (but not a dye stealer) on a Frer today. (This is new. I got a negative Frer a week ago with morning wee and took this test at 4pm).

I’m very worried because according to counting the first day of bleeding as cd1 this puts me at cd37. I don’t really have any symptoms apart from no period and being a little flushed in the face/a few more pimples.

Shouldn’t I have obvious symptoms and a dye stealer now? Or could I have ovulated very late? Like 10 days late? My cycles are roughly 30-32 days usually. Is this a sign of a chemical? I’m so scared. I keep seeing people get dye stealers or at least darker than this at cd25?

Not necessarily. Breast tenderness was my only early symptom with my daughter, but didn't start in my second pregnancy until about 8 weeks. Some people find that their symptoms are similar across pregnancies, and others don't. The negative test 10 days ago may be explained by late ovulation which can happen after a miscarriage. I believe those boutique ultrasound places do early viability scans from about 6 weeks - does that sound like something that might reassure you?

sunshine423 · 25/09/2021 18:30

You have probably ovulated later. Date wise I am 10+2 but I know that I am more likely to be 9+5/6 because of when I ovulated and the early scans I have had (due to previous stillbirth) back this up so far.

Try not to panic re symptoms etc. Every pregnancy is different. In my last pregnancy I didn't have any symptoms until nearly 8 weeks yet in this one they have been from 4 weeks.

headintheproverbial · 25/09/2021 18:33

Congratulations!

I never had a dye stealer or sore boobs in either of my pregnancies. My 8 and 4 year olds are next to me now. Try to relax into it.

Nicolelinda96 · 25/09/2021 20:36

I’m tempted to try one of the first response rapid result ones. I think they have 100 mlu sensitivity? If I get a positive on that then might reassure me that my hcg is in a good place?

I didn't get a dye stealer on a FRER at 6 weeks (and didn't have any symptoms apart from period like cramps until 7 weeks) and I have a 3 week old now! Your tests look fab, no amount of testing realistically will make you feel better, you're still going to have a worry at the back of your head. I know it's hard but I would book an early private scan and then try and do everything to distract yourself until then x

Sending you positive thoughts!

Look. I’ve been in your position. It’s absolutely mental-making and no amount of “chill your beans” can make it otherwise.

Test all you want but it’s a waste of your time and money. Nothing will reassure you until you give birth to a healthy baby, and even then you’ll spend all night checking they’re breathing.

Go for walks in nature. Breathe deeply. Eat well. Tell yourself that however long this embryo is staying for, you are doing all you can to make it feel loved and wanted.

Nicolelinda96 · 25/09/2021 20:54

Thank you. I would book an early scan but it’s difficult as I don’t know when I ovulated. I read that hcg has to be over 1000 to see a sac and over 6000 to see a heartbeat?? Worried because obviously mines not going to be any iota close to 6000 so I’ll probably not see anything anyway, which will make me feel even worse?

This is such a good post.

All the sympathy, OP - I know exactly how you feel - but everyone saying to stop the testing is absolutely right. There's nothing you can do to affect the outcome, so be kind to yourself int he meantime.

Reading about people whose hcg is like 5,000 at 4-5 weeks is freaking me out. People get dye stealers at less than 100 on frer so I’m not taking that as a sign of viability whatsoever. Having betas done isn’t a major thing here like it is in the us I don’t think, but I’m sure I can request them. Thing is if it came up at like 50-100 I’d be terrified. Obviously that’s not necessarily bad if you’re very early but having seen people have hcg in the thousands at 4 weeks the frer isn’t giving me any more hope tbh.

Got this this morning. 20mlu sensitivity. Is this mmb a good sign? Because 20 is still really low and my levels could still be abnormal?

Saying this gently and with concern for you but it sounds like you are spiralling. You have had multiple positive tests - you are pregnant! There's nothing any of us, or you, can do at this point to tell you how it will turn out. Try not to keep testing and instead register yourself with your GP and/or maternity services. For now you are pregnant, I know it's easier said than done but try not to let this ruin the next few weeks for you.

Derbee · 26/09/2021 17:02

I agree. I haven’t commented on this thread with your new test, as I don’t think it’s healthy for anyone to encourage you, OP. Yesterday you said you were stopping testing. I think your anxiety may be getting out of control, and I don’t think the opinions of random people on the internet are going to be healthy for you.

I don’t mean to be unkind, because the early wait to see if the pregnancy is viable is stressful. But I don’t think this is going to do you any good.

Nicolelinda96 · 26/09/2021 17:07

Thank you. Not unkind at all! You are absolutely right. I suppose it’s an amalgamation of having a previous loss and seeing countless threads where people have predicted a chemical.

OP posts:
Derbee · 26/09/2021 18:40

Of course it’s understandable that you’re nervous, with a recent loss. But people tend to start threads when they’re having issues. You need to remember the millions of women who have healthy pregnancies without writing about it online.

You’re pregnant. I really hope everything goes smoothly for you OP.

Nicolelinda96 · 26/09/2021 19:11

I’m done testing for real now. I got another solid dye stealer this evening. And I know they don’t really progress from there. Fingers crossed for plain sailing from here! Grin
