Hi everyone.
I'm 38 weeks pregnant and last week at my appointment when I was 37 weeks I have a cervical check my midwife wrote down that I was -4 Station and 2cm dilated. I am aware of what the dilation means but what does the station mean ? I also had a check up this morning again at 38 weeks and she has written -2 Station? Any one able to share what this means ? I've been having cramps all week in my back and stomach and loose stools but still no sign hoping it is soon!

It talks about position of head and how engaged the baby is

Hey, sorry not a clue!! But whenever something is wrote in my maternity notes that I want to understand I just google it and usually find out on there! I only recently learned in my 4th pregnany that CRL means crown to rump length lol 😁

I've just had a quick Google and apparently it is to do with how far the babies head has gone into the pelvis ready for birth

It’s commenting on how far into your pelvis baby’s head is at the time of examination. -4 means the head is not in the pelvis but is roughly 4cm above. When labour begins, in theory the head is at 0, and moves to +1, +2 etc. as labour goes on.

It’s not hugely important as it’s not very reliable, but it gives a very rough idea of whether your body is getting ready for labour and baby is getting into the optimal position.
