Hello there, I am just getting my hospital bag organised (due on 27th Dec) and this is what I have so far.

Me
1 X Nightdress to give birth in
1 X loungewear tracksuit bottoms for after the birth
1 X matching loungewear top
1 X vest top
3 X massive knickers
10 X maternity/always pads
3 X tena-pants... more (incase I prefer these)
Basic make-up
Make-up removal wipes
Moisteriser
Shampoo
Conditioner
Body wash (I can't remember from last time - will I need an unperfumed etc one incase of stitches etc?)
2 X nursing bras
1 X pair of slippers
MP3 player containing hypnobirthing recording

Baby
2 X sleepsuits
2 X vests
1 X snowsuit
1 X hat
1 X packet babywipes
10 X nappies
1 X jar of sudocreme

Does my list seem horrendously long or seriously lacking?

Do you think - for after the birth - I'd be better taking something that would also be suitable incase of C-section? In this case, what?

I've heard some people take their own pillows and things like personal DVD player/candles with them - anyone done this? Is it a good idea?

How about a big stick for poking people who annoy you? I've had 2 c-sections and when you're stuck in bed, a big stick would've been good. Infact, a big crook style walking stick so that when the midwife walked off with my baby without my permission I could've hooked her round the neck and told her to give him back! And, I got really itchy legs from the oromorph painkillers, could have scratched with my stick, or picked up things off the floor.....yes, you definitely need a long, crook like, knobbly stick!

Haven't read all the threads so sorry if repeating! Flash wipes to clean bath, shower, loo, around your bed and anywhere else you might touch. If your hospital is anything like mine was it will be filthy! (Moved me into an amenity room after my first night and there was blood on the sink......yuck!). I'd definately get more disposable knickers and another nightie and what about a dressing gown for wandering around in??
Baby will need cotton wool rather than baby wipes which are better to avoid at beginning due to sensitive skin!! I'd also agree with the chocolate stash (def required if having c section to stave off those low points at still being in hospital.........) Good luck, hope all goes well. My dd3 just turned one last week - bringing it all back!

Each time I didn't take enough clothes, they get bloodied so quickly (you know, in an "oops, time to change the pad" sort of way.

Ok, this maternity pads thing...... how many are we talking about here? How many per day?
Think I need to go out and shop for some more! Lol.

mylittleponey · 10/12/2007 14:13

a laundry bag in case your clothes get covered in blood plus useful for huge nappy changes!!

santaspregnantlittlehelper · 10/12/2007 17:33

aaah yes a good way to use up all those plastic bags we have stashed away at home.

and pads i put 2 packs in each of my bags (one in hospital and one in the car / by the front door).

a big stick is a great idea!

Re pads: get the cheapest chunky nighttime ones you can find, pref 2for1, 'maternity' labelled ones are usually more expensive. It's never a waste as you can pass any leftovers on to the next pal who gets pg.
