Hi lovelies, after 2 mc, this is the first time I've reached second trimester. But I haven't felt movements? Is it perhaps because I can't distinguish the feeling or...

It didn't feel anything like I thought it would. Honestly, it felt like wind bubbles, tiny little pops

MyMabel · 19/09/2021 23:41

At 19 weeks with my first I couldn’t feel anything. I think around 21 weeks I started to really feel some ‘pops’ like someone was gently flicking me from the inside.. honestly through it was gas to begin with until it got stronger.

I did have an anterior placenta too though so I didn’t really feel all that much throughout the whole thing.. not much at all from thyme outside and some nice kicks from the inside. Nothing like you see on the videos of people who baby’s feet’s are kicking right out of their skin.. I never had anything like that.

Try not to worry, stress doesn’t help baby. You’ll know when you begin to feel anything. I’m sure if your concerned you could ask to be checked and listen to baby’s heartbeat for peace of mind until you start to feel those little pops!

Hang in there, you’ll feel it soon!

mummaelle · 19/09/2021 23:41

I was around 19 weeks when I first felt my dd, I had an anterior placenta. Do you know the position of your placenta? That could be cushioning baby's movements so you don't feel it.

Farcry66 · 19/09/2021 23:45

With my first baby I literally never felt him move - midwife was really surprised when she had the Doppler on and he was having a right old time in there but I couldn't feel it at all. So different from my second baby who I felt move from about 20 weeks, but not really how o was expecting it to feel - it felt like he was turning over in there so it was almost like it was stroking down the inside of my belly.

Anyway .... moral of the story is, everyone is different but if you're worried, see your midwife.

olidora63 · 19/09/2021 23:46

It really does depend on where the placenta is ! My youngest I was being kicked from 17 weeks my daughter was the reason I was constantly being monitored…she had an anterior placenta! Definitely go to EPU for regular assessment.

Thank you ladies. Your experiences are so reassuring! I guess I'm just frightened that I'll turn up to my 20 week scan & somethings wrong 🤦🏻‍♀️

I didn't feel movement until 25 weeks ish xx

shangelawasrobbed · 19/09/2021 23:51

I'm 22+4 with my first and have only really started feeling movements over the last week or so. I found out at the 20 week scan that I had an anterior placenta - apparently this can cushion the movements xx

cadburyegg · 19/09/2021 23:53

With my DS1 I was 20 weeks before I felt anything. It was just before the scan when I finally felt movement - like others said, it just felt like bubbles to begin with! I had an anterior placenta.

Cafeaulait27 · 20/09/2021 04:58

I think they say you might not feel anything until 14 weeks if it’s your first baby.

When is your 20 week scan?

I know it’s easier said than done, I’m currently 36 weeks and this is my first successful pregnancy after 2 mc and I worried all the time. After the 20 weeks scan I felt so much better to see everything was looking normal. When movements become regular it’s so reassuring.

Chances of mc at this stage are extremely low. Good luck xx

haidri · 20/09/2021 08:38

@Cafeaulait27 my scans next week 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sorry I meant to put 24 weeks not 14! Late night typo!!

Cafeaulait27 · 20/09/2021 10:33

Good luck for your scan, try to distract yourself until then x

emeraldcity2000 · 20/09/2021 10:37

Good luck with your scan. I was after 20 weeks before I felt movement with either of mine xxxx

zeromango · 20/09/2021 14:36

@haidri do you know if your placenta is posterior or anterior? This makes a huge difference. With my first baby I didn't feel her until 24 weeks due to anterior. With this pregnancy I felt him as early as 15/16 weeks (although it wasn't daily until around 21 weeks)

custardbear · 20/09/2021 15:43

I don't think it's uncommon. I remember about 21 ish weeks it feeling like a washing machine, just a few movements before then with first from around 16-17 weeks but everyone is different

haidri · 21/09/2021 00:20

@zeromango I've no idea about the type of placenta so I'm assuming next weeks gender scan will make things a whole lot clearer 🥲

Scirocco · 21/09/2021 00:26

I'm in week 19 too and I've only felt what I think were early movements on two occasions. The first felt like a 'flip' inside and the second was like popping bubble wrap!

haidri · 21/09/2021 00:28

@Scirocco I keep thinking it might be gases or something..

MushroomQueen · 21/09/2021 17:38

With my first I had an anterior placenta and didn't feel anything until 24 weeks. My 2nd posterior at 18 weeks and this my 3rd posterior 17 weeks. Basically before 28 weeks drs don't tend to say count the kicks as baby is small still with lots of room to move around. I expect in the next 4 weeks you'll feel some small movements
