Pregnancy Pillow

Hi. I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant and starting to show a small bump as I have such a petite frame. I know in the coming weeks I will be getting bigger and bigger. I'm just wondering whether I should invest in a pregnancy pillow. The ones that are 'u' shaped? Any thoughts or suggestions?

To be honest I ummed and aarghed about it when I was pregnant with twins last year (I'm also - or was! - very petite) - in the end I just saved my money and used 2 normal bed pillows and that was fine

ArtfulScreamer · 18/09/2021 20:13

I bought a large u shape pillow when pregnant and loved it, so much so that I'll be buying another one once DS is no longer breastfeeding and co sleeping.

peoniesandpastels · 18/09/2021 20:20

I didn't really get on with the 'u' shaped pillow I bought. I found it was a lot of faffing when I needed to roll over or adjust in the night to then reach behind me and reposition the pillow at the back and then at the front.

I splurged on a bbhugme and I am so glad I did. I do have bad pelvic pain, a herniated disc, sciatica and hypermobile joints, so it's extra challenging for me to get comfortable.

MissL85 · 18/09/2021 20:43

@twinningatlife thanks for the suggestion. So it wasn't really needed? Did you just use normal pillows?

@peoniesandpastels I did wonder about that and whether it was entirely needed. This is my first pregnancy that has got this far, so I wasn't sure what other people did.

I have a u-shaped pillow and I love it. My back pain went away really quickly and it feels like a bit of luxury, which is really nice. I wouldn't spend loads and loads, but you can get them for fairly reasonable prices online (I got mine from Amazon and it was about £40-50 - I've definitely had my money's worth of enjoyment from it already!).

Whatevertrevor19 · 18/09/2021 20:57

I loved mine but my husband didn't lol, he said it took too much room up in bed

SRK16 · 18/09/2021 21:01

Another recommendation for the bbhugme! It was amazing throughout. I bought it around 18 weeks and it made a huge difference.

MissL85 · 18/09/2021 21:15

@peoniesandpastels and @SRK16 where did you get the BBHugme from? I've searched on Amazon and it's like £140.

@Whatevertrevor19 Yes, that's one of the reasons I'm reluctant to buy the 'u' shaped pillow. I can see what my partner will say about it taking up all the space.

I bought mine from John Lewis, and I think it was around £140. As I said in my earlier post, I have a lot of issues with joints in pregnancy which makes the money worth spending for me personally. You may not find it worth it if your back and hips hold up a little better than mine.

jolota · 18/09/2021 21:42

I just bought a Bella moon, hoping to use it to stop me rolling onto my back. Which I never did before I got pregnant so I'm pretty bemused by this problem!
Hasn't been delivered yet but I already have a tube pillow that I used pre pregnancy but isn't doing anything for me now. (Which is why I didn't try to buy the bbhugme even though loads of people swear by them, doesn't seem any different to what I already have)
I thought about the U shaped ones but I'm quite particular about my regular pillow so figured they probably wouldn't be comfortable for my neck. Though I might have to try them if this one doesn't stop me rolling!
It's such a pain no where seems to sell them except online, so you can't actually try them like you would a mattress or pillows in a bed store.

Mindyourbusiness22 · 18/09/2021 21:49

I bought the bbhugme and love it, wish I’d had it my whole life 😂

idontlikealdi · 18/09/2021 21:53

The most comfy thing I have and. I haven't been pregnant for ten years.

Peppermint81 · 18/09/2021 22:05

Don't waste you money. I bought a u shaped one from Amazon (can't remember make) and it was not comfy, made you hot, difficult to turn over in night if uncomfortable, awkward where you legs went etc. I found normal pillow between knees and another under bump when it was bigger worked better!

Buttons294749 · 18/09/2021 22:08

I had a dream genii which I loved and really recommend, really comfy.

I also had the dream baby S shaped one which was awful

AllTheCakes · 18/09/2021 22:11

I bought a second hand bbhugme (with washable covers!) which has been well worth it. So much better than the u shaped pillows and a dream to sleep with.

Katiekattty · 18/09/2021 22:36

Another for BBHugme it makes a huge difference. My DH bought it for a birthday gift, I thought he was crazy but in hindsight it’s worth every penny.

twinningatlife · 19/09/2021 11:05

Yup just ordinary pillows - I couldn't justify the cost of a pillow with twins on the way 😬
