Irregular contractions at 40 weeks for days

Hi everyone

I had a failed induction with my DS at 42 weeks. Got stuck at 5cm after 12 hours of crazy pitocin induced contractions and ended up with an emcs.

I didn't enjoy the recovery from the c section (I mean, does anyone?) Also ended up with horrible pnd and a baby who would not sleep more than two hours at a time until he was almost 2. So it was a struggle.

Anyway, this time I'm going for a VBAC. I never had so much of a twinge with the first pregnancy until the induction started. But this Tuesday (40+1) at like 3am, I started to get regular painful contractions. Went into hospital where the contractions quickly petered out. I was told that I was 1cm and that my cervix had come forward a little. Midwife recommended going home to wait until contractions were 5 minutes apart and I was like "Great, I hate hospitals and I want my bed." Grin

However, since then I have had irregular painful contractions starting and stopping all over the place. They're bad enough to wake me up every 10 minutes at night but seem less severe during the day. I ended up back in hospital early this morning (Thursday) as they seemed to be ramping up again. I'm now 2 cm dilated, cervix is more favourable and I lost my mucus plug. Hospital wanted to keep me in for monitoring but looks like they'll let me home this afternoon because, big surprise, the contractions are reducing again.

Has anyone else had a latent phase this long? It's driving me mad! I got about 2 hours of sleep last night and I just want this pregnancy to be over. Although the irony there is that I'll definitely not get any more sleep once DS2 is here. To clarify I've been having irregular contractions for around 60 hours. Any stories of hope would be greatly appreciated. I'm still holding out for a VBAC.

Hey,

I had contractions for about 3/4 days with #1, it was 3 years ago but I'm pretty sure they were quite on and off and didn't seem to get as close together as I think they should have. That was until I woke up one night and they were pretty intense and my waters went, at that point I rang the hospital and they were still a bit like you can come in if you want but might be worth waiting a while (I think they thought it would be a while as I could still hold a conversation and still weren't really really close together). Anyway by the time I got to the hospital and they started to examine me (so maybe 40mins) they soon realised that baby was on its way (i didn't even make it to the delivery suite!!)

So although the beginnings can drag on it can come on pretty quick, so hang in there and bear in mind that you contractions may not get that close together and that intense as everyone is different.

I hope that helps.

@Cantthinkofaname99 thanks, it's good to hear that they can last that long but that they don't last forever!

My little breech babe turned and set off latent labour on Saturday gone....I have been having contractions a week tomorrow but no change to cervix. They go from 7mins apart ramping up intensity and become about 4mins apart and then drop off after about 2 hours!

I have my midwife appointment tomorrow so may just get her to have a little examination to see if anything has changed!

Fingers crossed yours has progressed now 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Hi everyone, labour did start to progress on Friday morning but eventually stalled at 8cm because of baby's position. I ended up with an EMCS but at least I got my beautiful little baby boy.
