Still vomiting at 23 weeks

I’m still experiencing vomiting at 23 weeks preg. Keep trying to go to work but then get sent home. Some days I just can’t manage to go in and I’m worried work will think I’m taking a lend. I’ve got medication but it’s not quite strong enough so my mornings are awful but afternoons are slightly better.
Any advice please? I just keep thinking I’m 23 weeks, this should be gone.

Dreadful isn't it? I think for some women it does just last longer.

Keep your fluids up and keep experimenting with things till you find something that helps, especially in the morning Thanks

I vomited every day until I delivered at 40+10. I did ease in the third tri though. It's tough, hang in there.

@justhaveagingerbiscuit for some women sickness lasts all the way through. It happened to me with my first and it's happening with my current pregnancy. I have Hyperemesis and take 3 types of drugs to try to stop vomiting. Are you on any anti sickness drugs? There are plenty of safe options. Get in touch with your GP and they can prescribe you something like cyclizine.

I had morning sickness all the way through.

There are other medications if you're already on cyclizine. There are plenty to try

I also had 'morning sickness' all day until I delivered. Sorry, it is awful.

I ended up starting my maternity leave at the earliest possible time which unfortunately meant less time with DD.

I’m pleased I’m not alone (because I don’t know about you all but it feels terribly lonely when you feel like this) but also just so sorry that so many women go through this. I’ve just doubled my dosage of anti sickness meds but now feel so sleepy. Can’t win. Still not sure what to do about work!

Can you get signed off? I was off for months and was a total zombie when I returned as the promethazine completely knocked me out.

You have my biggest sympathies. I've been through cancer treatment and found my HG pregnancy far tougher to cope with physically. Feeling that ill for so long is bloody hard.

haidri · 16/09/2021 11:43

@justhaveagingerbiscuit I had severe HG, but with antisickness I'm finally able to enjoy my day rather than vomiting all day. Definitely go to your gp

justhaveagingerbiscuit · 16/09/2021 12:00

Thanks @poptartsRUs and @haidri I’ve spoken to my GP twice this week and they didn’t suggest signing me off.

GP's aren't that great with HG IME. I had to tell mine what to prescribe but they were happy to sign me off when I asked. The maternity unit took pity on me and prescribed Ondansetron which helped with the vomiting but made no difference to the nausea and retching.

I would ask to be signed off if you are having to go home regularly due to feeling too ill. Rest up and you might feel better. Sleep was the only thing that helped me.

You poor thing
I vomited almost from conception and during labour too.
Most people do find it eases later, hopefully yours might too

Hoppinggreen · 16/09/2021 12:52

@CaptainMyCaptain

I had morning sickness all the way through.
Doesn’t vanish at midday unfortunately does it?
SeaToSki · 16/09/2021 12:56

Can you take a half dose of the meds in the very early morning, and then go back to sleep for a couple of hours, and take the other half at lunch time? Spreading it out might help reduce the tiredness
