Can't keep any food or drink down - need suggestions

I'm now coming up to 10 weeks and the hope that my MS would peter off by now is dimming.

It's quite the opposite and right now everything I've managed to eat, or what I crave is setting me of dry hurling and in most cases vomiting up.

My cravings are

Crunchy nut but realised pretty quick the milk was bad on my stomach

Baked potatoes and beans - coming up every time now

Buttery toast - dry hurling and think would come up if stomach was fuller

Cream crackers/ginger nuts - same as toast

Same wirh drinks, I'm so thirsty and all I want to do it fluff a massive drink but everything just sets me off.

Has anyone got any other food suggestions, desperate here.

Also, at what point should I inform my midwife about this? I don't want to waste time if this can all be put dow to just a bad bout of Ms but I'm already taking cyclizine (over the counter desperation) and I've still lost about 5lbs in the last week from lack of eating. (I do have it to lose though as my bmi was 32)

I would speak to a GP now - the risk to you and baby is dehydration. The problem with morning sickness is it seems to be unique to each person, what works for me may not work for you so I’m afraid it’s trail and error. I found Diet Coke and lucozade could stay down (small sips) as well as orange juice and milk. I could keep down Mac and cheese and jacket pots and Greek yog with honey but that was it for quite a few weeks. Good luck, hope you feel better soon xx

I'm suffering a lot with sickness and usually find nothing much will stay down until the evening. So I tend not to eat until about 5 or 6pm. To be honest the thought of food and water turns my stomach. I might sip water through the day. By 5 or 6pm I usually feel hungry and I try to have a small amount of dinner and usually within an hour or two I feel nearly normal and snack and drink away all evening. I dread going to sleep because I know as soon as I wake I will be getting sick. I have found sometimes a few bites of banana will stay down, it's part of the BRAT diet that is recommended for nausea, I think the vitamin B in the banana can help with feelings of nausea. Hope you are feeling better soon and if you are struggling to keep food and water down all the time I would definitely be reaching out to your GP. I told my GP at my first app that I had been a bit sick and struggling to eat at times. She immediately checked my urine for ketones and said if the sickness keeps up then to come back to her so she can check urine again for ketones because it can be dangerous for you and baby. Hope you find something that works for you, everyone is so different, it's just trial and error.

You need to take the cyclizine 3 times a day for you to see the real benefits. GP can give you other drugs too and you can take more than one type. I've been taking cyclizine, stemetil and ondansetron from weeks 6/7.

I am 19 weeks and still vomit everyday.

Contact pregnancy sickness support for advice. They're great.

I always found having ice cubes or ice lollies were ok to keep down

Sparkling water or ice cubes
Fruit juice ice lollies
For me, salt and vinegar crisps worked well
Coconut or almond milk instead of dairy
Watermelon and other melon also, and it neutralises acid which is another benefit

I read ( I think on here) that someone's midwife said get a jiff lemon and squeeze a drop on your tongue when you feel sick to stop a gag in its tracks. Lemon in general makes me less nauseous when I am so might be worth a try

I guarantee that jiff lemon in the tongue would result in an exorcist style vomit from me

@thingymaboob I never tried the jiff but I did lick cut lemons, and feel it helped. Took the horrible taste out of my mouth 😅

thingymaboob · 15/09/2021 20:52

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 maybe I should try. I have the rankest taste in my mouth. Chemically froth. Really yucky. Pregnancy is miserable

MeredithGreyishblue · 15/09/2021 20:54

I second ice lollies

YouBoggleMyMind · 15/09/2021 20:54

There are a few different antiemetic medications, if this one isn't working, try another. Don't ignore it and defo speak to someone now.

NannyPear · 15/09/2021 21:05

I'm 13+4 and still being sick every day but it's definitely easing. At the start I could keep food down and frequently eating was vital but by around 9 weeks I vomited everything up until very late at night. Even now I can only eat really starchy foods so crumpets, sandwiches, pasta stay down best. Haven't been able to do ice lollies or anything that just adds to the liquid content of my stomach (so glamorous being pregnant).
I'd call your GP now and get more/different meds. Things peaked for me around 11 weeks so best be prepared in case you're the same.

WeGoAgain123 · 16/09/2021 11:39

Thank you everyone for your replies.

It's as if my magic, today I'm feeling 100 times better.

Things that I did yesterday:

Ate a banana
Drank lucozade
Finally got and started taking my 5mg folic acid.

Today I'm craving ham sandwiches and enjoying them, having them mentioned her really put them into the for front of my brain.

I'm still taking cyclizine 3 times a day but I think my nausea has reduced to a level that it's working.

Thanks so much everyone...hoping it lasts!

Oh goodness, now I'm in total panic as I feel way to well.

I feel like I've lost all my
Pregnancy symptoms overnight.

Sickness, burping, spree boobs.

No bleeding or cramping but fearing the worst 😫

I panicked too when felt better, but placenta takes over between 8-12 weeks. I had a private scan at 10 weeks, and the Dr said she expected I felt a lot better as my placenta had taken over.

I bizarrely felt horrible again 12-14 weeks, so my little period of respite didn't last too long!
