Recurrent miscarriage 5 weeks

Hello, I’ve had 3 back to back miscarriages all at around 5 weeks none getting to heartbeat stage. 2 have been naturally conceived and 1 a frozen embryo transfer. I have a 1 year old from IVF.

Has anyone else had recurrent miscarriages at 5 weeks? Was anything diagnosed? Did the DRs find any reason? Have you successfully solved it?

I’m booked into the recurrent miscarriage clinic but appointment not for months. Also concerned they won’t test if this blood vial shortage continues.

TIA xxx

Hey 👋🏻 I'm currently about 4+3 with my 5th pregnancy after 4 back to back miscarriages. I've had 2 chemicals at 4 weeks, one blighted ovum at 7 weeks and one missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. I was referred after my third to the recurrent miscarriage clinic and had all the blood tests which concluded there's no notable reason as to why I'm miscarrying. They put me on progesterone when I found out I was pregnant the 4th time but I still miscarried and the progesterone actually masked the miscarriage for a while. It was only because I took a test when my boobs stopped hurting and saw it was practically negative that I realised the progesterone was stopping me from bleeding.

I'm now taking this one a day at a time, not getting too hopefully but not being super negative either. I'm so happy I'm pregnant but I'm also an anxious mess constantly thinking I'm gonna miscarry again because it's all I know 🤷🏼‍♀️ because I'm under the care of tommies for recurrent miscarriages it means I get extra scans etc so once I hit 6 weeks (🤞🏻) ill give them a call and book a scan and tests but until then I can't bring myself to do it in case I have to cancel the scan

Thanks so much for your comment. Praying for this pregnancy for you 🙏 I know exactly what you’re saying taking it a day at a time it’s so difficult the waiting and constant wondering if it’s ok or another miscarriage. The wait for the 6 week scan feels like an eternity and I find it so difficult not to constantly worry and Google about miscarriages.

Have you been put on anything for this pregnancy? Progesterone or aspirin or anything? Did they test any of your pregnancies to see if it was chromosome reasons? Do you get any appointments with tommies before 6 weeks or blood tests now etc or do you have to just wait until you can book in for a 6 week scan?

Sorry for so many questions. Obviously don’t have to answer all if not comfortable. Really appreciate it and hoping your pregnancy progresses.

I had 3 early MC (all around 5/6 weeks) and now 39 weeks pregnant. I took the following from ovulation (so before positive test) with this baby:
75 mg aspirin
2x 400 progesterone pessaries until 16 weeks pregnant
High dose folic acid
High dose vitamin d (prescription dose)
Pyridoxine
Dalteparin daily (blood thinners)

I paid for tests myself due to age and age gap with DC1, the waiting list at recurrent MC clinic was 5-8 months (and more due to covid and lockdowns).

Good luck OP!

As for me there was not an obvious answer (never had a MC tested), the consultants think a mix of bad luck, age (was between 36-38 years old) and clotting issues. I also had at around 5 chemical pregnancies.

Now with this pregnancy I am under consultant led care and had about 10 scans (3 scans before I was 12 weeks) and will get induced on due date due to my history.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I had 3 early miscarriages (between 5-7 weeks). The doctor didn’t find a cause for it and just said it’s bad luck. I took a break from trying and start taking q10, I also went to an acupuncturist and then we fell pregnant with my daughter. During pregnancy I took 150mg aspirin from week 12 to like 30. Hope it works out for you x

Thanks so much for commenting!

@AdriannaP that’s so interesting and huge congratulations!!! How did you get those prescriptions? Was it through your GP?

I ask because I feel like I get referrals/help from early pregnancy ONCE I’ve miscarried but I actually need prior support to try and prevent the miscarriage! Im not sure if it’s my GP or the early preg clinic I should be pushing to get some prescriptions prior to conceiving or at conception to try and prevent the miscarriage.

Many thanks again.

@Motherofcats007 thanks for your comment!

Yes I’ve had loads of acupuncture and I do have a daughter through IVF. I think it did help my relax.

Regarding the aspirin - were you advised not to take it before 12 weeks? I’ve seen mixed reports on when you should take it.

Thanks!!

@NickyEsther I got the prescriptions from a private consultant (apart from aspirin- he advised it and I bought it myself). I started taking everything from ovulation and stopped when I had a negative test. Kept going when I has a positive one.

He thinks progesterone made biggest difference especially as I had so many chemical pregnancies. I clearly didn’t struggle to conceive but egg struggled to stick. Overall I think I have spent around £2k-3k on acupuncture, tests, fertility tests, private consultant appointments but for me it was worth it. On NHS I would have had a the first miscarriage clinic appointment in May this year (and it was a telephone appointment!!) when I was already 5 months pregnant. Some of the cost was paid by a private health insurance I had through work. I understand not everyone can afford this but for me it was money well spent.
Once I was 6 weeks and had my first scan I continued everything on NHS and have not seen my private consultant since. The prescriptions are on my NHS app so I can get them renewed without problems.

AdriannaP · 14/09/2021 09:48

And sorry I also took 150mg aspirin not 75mg. Still taking everything now just not the progesterone.

AdriannaP · 14/09/2021 09:51

As you had three now you can push for more support already. Aspirin you can buy yourself and progesterone you can push for. Tommy’s have a leaflet onlinr how to discuss progesterone prescriptions with your GP and why it has shown proven results. As you have one DD already I assume there is no deeper fertility issues which means you have a very high chance to have another baby.

NickyEsther · 14/09/2021 10:06

@AdriannaP so helpful!! Thank you!

Yes we’ve already spent about £50k on fertility treatment (all our savings) but have our daughter so worth it. My mother has now kindly said she’ll pay for these further tests etc privately now so I don’t have to wait for NHS. So we are very lucky in that regard I know as so many can’t afford it. Thanks again though as what you have said is pretty much exactly what I was thinking I needed so I’m going to speak to a private consultant and try to get proactive treatment prior to conceiving.

All the best and good luck!!

Motherofcats007 · 14/09/2021 18:23

I think I was meant to start taking it as soon as I know I’m pregnant but they didn’t tell me till the 12 week scan.
