Hi everyone,

I'm suffering really bad with headaches at the moment (I am 19 weeks). Paracetemol isn't helping at all and I can barely function.

I also spend my work day infront of a laptop which im sure isn't helping.

Any advice would be so appreciated I'm at my wits end!!

Full fat Coke - which I HATE - was the only thing that worked for me. They only lasted about two weeks but they were hideous - sympathies OP!

Drink LOADS. Your body needs lots of fluid to increase your blood volume.

I'm suffering with them every day too (18wks) so I sympathise. Haven't found anything that helps yet though. Hoping someone will come along with a miracle cure!

I definitely didn't have them this bad with my first pregnancy. Then I used 4head roll on and strong ibuprofen when I really needed to.

Get a blue light screen filter on your laptop as well to try reduce. I'm not pregnant but suffer chronic migraines and headaches. I always drink lucozade when I get a headache it really helps alongside paracetamol and something cold on the head. You can actually get headache cold caps online I need to look into them too.

Thanks everyone they are bloody horrible.

Paracetemol doesn't seem to work at all for me but I'll definitely try the sugary drinks!

Ugh, I'm 7 months now and have had this throughout, it's awful. I got migraines and lots of headaches even prior to being pregnant. Loading up on ibuprofen is so effective for me in normal times but obviously not an option whilst pregnant! I find the only thing that helps me now is a warm/hot compress on my head/eyes/forehead. They make eye masks/head packs that you can warm or freeze and those work best for me.

Those little sticks from b&m / home bargains are great you rub them on your temples they are menthol . Also some self acupuncture like pinching the skin between your thumb and index finger for a few minutes . I like lemsip too the decongestant can help.

Could it be your neck amd shoulders? I get bad tension headaches caused by this. With all the muscle and ligament changes amd changes in your posture, could be it. See a physio privately if you can/osteopath?

Definitely get a workplace assessment done for screen and physical workstation adjustments. Your employer has a legal duty and should have a process to ensure you're kept safe so don't feel bad for asking. Also, please do keep in mind you should tell your midwife especially later down the track as it can be a sign of pre eclampsia.

Have you had an eye test recently OP? I know sight can change in pregnancy due to all the relaxing hormones released. Hope they go soon and you feel better

SkyeJ90 · 13/09/2021 23:07

I had a few horrific headaches through pregnancy and found paracetamol did nothing to help.

The only thing that massively helped was kool and soothe cooling gel sheets, they didn’t take the headache away but they gave me a few hours of relief.

Strokethefurrywall · 13/09/2021 23:21

I had the same and I drank coffee for the caffeine.
My OBGYN said that as your blood volume increases, you blood vessels don’t dilate enough which causes headaches.
Caffeine helps with dilation - honestly my headaches disappeared within the hour after going back to coffee.

@hunkydory99 hey, I had my eyes tested just before pregnancy and they were fine! It might be worth me getting it done again. Thank you xx

Thanks everyone for your advice! I'm going to ring the midwife I think as it's just getting worse. I'm dreading work because of the laptop but as someone suggested previously maybe work could make some adjustments for me!

I have been trying to cut out coffee so maybe this could be it! I just wanted to cut down on my caffeine throughout the pregnancy!
