Hi all.
I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant had a scan a few days ago and baby is weighing around 7lbs 9oz. I am aware that these are really rough estimates but it scares the life out of me about labour more than what I already was to do it again. With my 1st I had a scan the night before he was born and his estimated weigh was 7lb and he was 9lb! I had bad tearing and a pretty hard recovery from labour and it scares me to do it again. I mentioned to the doctor my concerns and also told them I was tested for gestational diabetes at 21 weeks at the mistake of the doctor who put me forward for the test to early as it is to be done usually after 24 weeks, my results came back clear but I have always been concerned that because I wasn't tested at the usual time my results were wrong and that is why baby is measuring bigger. But they refuse to test me again, I haven't got another appointment again until I'm over 39 weeks where they said they will examine me internally, its just freaking me out slightly any advice or experience?

I can offer support on this! Similar with me but I had got diabetes first time around so it was simply assumed it would be the same on this one. Baby came out at 9lbs. Had to get an epistomy but didn’t feel a thing as had the epidural. Baby practically fell out, no issues with pushing. First baby was seven pounds so I was petrified as I was in a berry bad way after a forceps delivery. Ironically they said first would be big, she wasn’t. This one I was told mixed things but the head doctor said she would be small😂 recovery was a doddle compared to the first smaller baby! (I also went into Labour myself on this one, first was an induction)

My biggest baby (9lb5) was my easiest labour by far. I think gravity helped (pushed while kneeling and leaning on the bed). I didn't have any warning at the scans though so wasn't expecting him to be big.
Not really helpful, but just to reassure that big isn't always difficult.

Big baby here also at 37weeks measuring at 7.5lbs. They have made decision to induce me @ 39weeks. Is this something you can request?

Hey op mine waa estimated to weigh 8lb 5oz at my 34 week growth scan! I had gestational diabetes and at 38 weeks I was measuring at 43 weeks!

I was offered a section at 39 weeks.

She was 8lb 1oz at birth 😂.

They're not always accurate!

At 36 weeks I was measuring 41+5 and they estimated baby was almost 12lb Grin I was already booked in for an elective section at 38 weeks due to a previous emergency one so I just stuck with that, I didn't want it to happen any earlier. They thought he'd be 13/14lb at birth but he was 10lb 8oz. So he was still a big baby but not the off the charts humongous baby they thought he was.
Growth scans are notoriously inaccurate! Based on baby putting on half a lb a week at this stage, you'd probably be looking at a 9/10lb baby IF your scan is accurate, you can always discuss early induction or a c section if you are anxious.

Similar situation to you OP.
Have just had a growth scan at 37 weeks to find baby big with estimated weight currently 8lbs. Was told likely due to undiagnosed GD but wouldn't be tested.

Met with a consultant who discussed induction at 38 weeks or c-section at 39.
I pushed for blood sugar monitoring as didn't feel I could make that decision without knowing if I had GD or not. Turns out I do but can be controlled by diet so have opted for c section at 39 to give baby another week to get his lungs stronger.

Definitely speak with a consultant to discuss induction or c-section around 38/39 weeks if you are concerned

Thanks everyone.
Already discussed getting ready re tested they have firmly told me no because baby isn't 'that big'. Also told I wouldn't be offered induction or anything of sort as they want me to go into labour myself which is why I have been offered a sweep at 39 weeks, and I suppose if the sweep doesn't work I Will be brought back for induction. I get a different doctor at each appointment who tells me different things which is very frustrating! My last appointment not the one last week the one before I had the doctor tell me it baby was still measuring big that yes they would certainly offer me a GD test, mentioned it to the doctor last week who dismissed me and said no they won't be . Its just very frustrating being told different things each time.
