Safe sleeping for newborns in winter

Hi all!

I'm 30 weeks and due mid November! I've just started to think about baby bits and I'm just wondering what is baby best sleeping in mid November?
Do I need a sleep sac for baby and If so what size? Vests and sleep suits or just sleep suits?

Obviously this is my first baby and I've no idea what I'm looking for 😂

Depends how warm your house is. But in winter vests are used under both day clothes and sleepsuits usually.
DD had grosnugs to start with then grobags when bigger. We mainly used 1tog as house warm but we had 2.5t too. I always had 2 of each weight so can wash one, wear one. 0.5t for summer.

Zip up sleepsuits with built in mits and feet are best for newborns. Poppers are annoying at 3am! But they are harder to find.

Congrats on your baby! I'd go with a vest and sleep suit in November weather, skip newborn size and just get up to 1 month (I found M&S great quality)- newborn size lasts about a week- my baby was 7Lb6oz for context!
Snuz sleep bags are good and can often be found reduced online. I found Tommee Tippee are teeny at the neck so I'd avoid them.

I had summer babies but I found this guide useful: gro.co.uk/what-to-wear/. I had big babies so we could have used grobags from birth, but as both were born in heatwaves we swaddled in big muslins for the first 4-6 weeks. Check the minimum weight on the label if you want to use sleeping bags.

My baby was born in november, he used to go to bed in a sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag.
It really depends on the temperature of your room tho there are good wee charts online that show you what to dress baby in for bed depending on how warm your room is.
Get sleep suits with the built in scratch mitts as it means they won’t fall off in the night.
Most sleeping bags have a minimum weight requirement of about 8lbs before you can use them. (Gro company sleeping bags also come with a wee paper room thermometer which is quite handy) So you might need to use blankets or a swaddle for a bit too.

You absolutely need vests too! Even for during the day under whatever they are wearing. They keep the nappy in place and help with then wearing one more layer you which is what i used to determine if my DS was dressed appropriately for e cold.

I lived in a warm, terraced house when DC were babies and I used the advice from the link posted above. In winter I used vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog sleeping bag. Long-sleeved vest if it was particularly cold. I think the coldest our house used to get was 16 degrees.

Vest, sleepsuit and 2.5tog sleeping bag.

I had a autumn baby last year and due with a winter one this year, we live in an old terrace house which does get cold. We set the heating to come on at 3am for 90 mins to keep the room dropping too much at night. Baby wore vest, sleepsuit, woolen breathable cardigan (think hokey sorta knit) and a cellular blanket when too small for sleeping bag and a 2.5 sleeping bag when he was big enough for them. Now I’ve had summer with him, I realise he would sweat if he was too hot and that never happened with the above, so I think that was the right thing to dress him in x
