Baby movements - 20 weeks

Hi there - this is my first time posting on Mumsnet and seeing all the useful feedback thought I would give it a try.

This is my first pregnancy so not quite sure what to expect re: baby movements. I was feeling alot of flutterings for the last 2 weeks but this week it seems to have gone very quite inside my tummy...??

I have had two prev. miscarriages (before 12 weeks) and now my DH and I seem to be very paranoid there is something wrong as i can't feel any flutterings lately.. Is this quite normal? Should I be worried?

I did go to my dr. at 16 weeks to check for heartbeat - he made me feel like I was crazy even asking him to check but I made him do it anyway.

I do have my anamoly scan next Tuesday but not sure I can wait till then!!

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

have you been busy? that often makes you not aware. try lying down quietly and concentrate, after drinking a cold drink.

Maybe your placenta is on the front wall and you won't feel the baby so much - mine is and i don't!

And if you are due in april join us here - im 21 weeks pg too clik here

Hi penguin,
Feeling movement does depend on where your placenta is lying. Any the baby is quite small still at 20 weeks so it is highly likely that your bub is dancing about but you just can't feel it.
At our 20-week scan we could see ours kicking its legs (aimed at my bladder, I'm sure), but I couldn't feel it.
You could try lying on your side with your legs curled up and see if you can sense any movements. Drinking cold water, coke, and eating sweets seem to be popular baby-ruses too.
hope this helps!

Hi penguin,

When my baby movements changed from flutterings to kicks, there were a few days when I didn't feel anything (in fact I think I posted on here), I think it was the transfer from feeling one type of movement to the other (completely made up theory but it worked for me!)

If you are still worried, go to your GP (but maybe see if you can pick another one, they should be nicer than that!!)

Drink a pint of very cold water and lie down, that can provoke movement (but seems a little harsh, )

And it isn't till later that you feel it even when you are rushing around, it is very easy to miss movements when yoiu are busy.

Hi Scorpio, hope all is well!

The baby may be kicking towards your back in which case you won't feel the movements. It is hard not to worry but at 20 weeks it's normal not to feel regular movements, some people don't feel any even past this stage.

mummyrex · 04/12/2007 11:20

I didn't feel anything until at least 20 weeks with my first and then it was only the faintest flutter when I was lying down.

penguin2za · 04/12/2007 11:25

Thanks going for 3 and mummyrex - feel better already!!

im 24 weeks and if im at work running around like mad i dont always get a lot of movements. babies also have quiet days so try not to panic. theres a great pregnancy after miscarriage thread on here which you might find helpful.
