I think you’d have to ring the GP to ask? Or the oharmacist? Whenever I had prescriptions when I was pregnant I used to double check at the pharmacy that they were ok and the pharmacist used to look it up on their system and advise.

@Peaplant20 Thank you I asked the pharmacy yesterday but they said they couldn't give me an advice has to be the doctor but doctors are a nightmare just now will try to call them tho! Thanks for help x

Depends on how large the area it is being used on. If it just a small area for a few days to contain a flare then a mild steroid like eumovate will be fine to use. Very little gets systemically absorbed through the skin. Just wash hands thoroughly after use.

@haz452 I have bad excema and psoriasis and I'm in my first trimester.
I spoke with my GP earlier this week and in summary he said:

Oral steroids ❌ studies have shown can cause tremors and cleft palates in baby

Topical steroids:
Memethasone-strong steroids but low risk. Can use sparingly if lower strengths below don't help
Eumovate-medium strength. Very low risk. Prescribed to pregnant women who experience pregnancy related excema flare ups
Hydrocortisone-low strength. OTC. Very very low risk.

He basically said start with the lowest but if it doesn't help I should return to my memethasone as topical steroids are low risk. Speak to your GP as mine knows my history and I've been on high strength oral and topical steroids.

@wannabeamummysobad Thank you! I usually go to the dermatology but they just do phone apps just now regarding my skin. I've had eczema since I was little and always used steroid creams.
How far on are you? I am over 6 weeks how's your skin been? Do you take an antihistamine as well? If so what one do you take? Xxx

@haz452 I'm 7 weeks. My skin was really settling down after a rough 3 years (was having phototherapy just before covid lockdown in March 2020) and was thinking i was growing out of it/the change in lifestyle (no commute, not touching random cleaning products on my desk after the cleaners had been etc) was part of it then at around 5weeks DH noticed I was starting to itch at night,I was feeling itchy in the day and my skin was becoming elevated. Tbh, I was super conscious because I've been on very strong oral and topical steroids and didn't want to use them while pregnant but nor did I want to hate my life for 9months.

I used the memethosone sparingly on the affected areas and it's calmed down. Waiting for my eumovate prescription to be ready then will have that on standby.
Other than that I'll be continuing with my Dermol500 (shower lotion) and hydromol ointment (emollient) to keep my skin barrier.

Chronic Excema is a pain. Chronic excema whilst pregnant is even worse but we've got this!

@wannabeamummysobad Am glad am not the only person on this journey! Before I got pregnant I use zerobase and demol 500 and then steroids I use eumovate and dermovate when bad.
My skin has improved the last two years I used to go and get bandages done every couple of days and had light treatment a few times as well. Am just hoping my skin doesn't get really bad am the same my skin is more itchy just now.
Do you have eczema all over? Xxx

@haz452 I forgot you asked about antihistamines-I've been told only to use puriton. It does nothing for me so fingers crossed I can keep my flare ups under control.

I have excema everywhere except my face, hands and feet. Because it was so wide spread ive had 3 courses of light therapy the past decade (where you feel like you are in a standing suntan booth) and various patch and intolerance tests (i am allergic/intolerant to the most obscure things).

Looks like we're in similar boats. Good luck!

iverunoutofinspiration · 09/09/2021 14:51

Yes it's fine! Just started using it yesterday as I've had a pregnancy related flare up and my Gp and pharmacist said v low risk and not to worry

AlphaHomeopathy · 09/09/2021 16:31

I'd never contradict anybody's family doctor's recommendation, but as far as children are concerned I've written an in-depth post here about eczema.
