Uterine fibroids

Hey everyone I have just found out I’m 2-3 weeks pregnant and I’m so worried as last November I had a 5cm cyst removed from one of my ovaries but they also saw a fibroid that’s situated between the anus and uterine wall and because of its location they couldn’t take it away. I googled and I saw so many upsetting stories so I was wondering if anyone else have fibroids in their pregnancy? Thank you ❤️

Hi @Misscharlie84 I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and have a uterine fibroid I didn't know about until my first scan. This is my first pregnancy, we were excited so went for an early scan and saw a 5cm fibroid. By the time I had my 12 week scan it had grown to 7.5cm and was positioned over my cervix. At my 20 week scan it had moved 5cm away from my cervix, and had shrunk to 5cm. I'm told this is due to fluctuations in oestrogen (which makes it grow) and the stretching of the uterus as the baby grows (hence it, thankfully, moving away from my cervix). So far I haven't had any complications, and the midwife and sonographers have been quite relaxed about it. If it were to remain close to my cervix, or grow larger again, I would need to have a caesarean birth. But as it is, it seems to be moving in the right direction. I believe it's just a watch and wait exercise. I'm booked in for an extra NHS scan at 32 weeks to see where it is at that point and a decision will be made as to whether a vaginal birth will be possible in that regard.

Like previous poster I also discovered I had a fibroid at my 12 week scan, also 5cm. Mine however is at the top of my uterus and hasn’t grown, so it’s not really an issue. I had extra scans at 32 and 36 weeks to check on it but all is well. The only differences for me are that if I go through labour in the midwife led unit I’ll be overseen by the consultant midwife. the main concern is risk of haemorrhage after baby is born, so they recommend having the injection that speeds up placenta delivery but did tell me that that can be my call on the day - if there isn’t much bleeding I can go without it.

I completely understand your anxiety but fibroids aren’t hugely uncommon and tbh the extra scans were nice and reassuring Smile for me the worst outcome has been that now I’m nearing the end of my pregnancy you can see and feel the fibroid poking out of my bump, which is gross but also weirdly fascinating… and sometimes when the baby kicks there it feels like she’s pressing a bruise!

I have fibroids, picked up on 12w scan. Had pelvic pain since the last pregnancy in 2017/18 so I need to find out if this is the cause. Can't really do much about it apparently, so I'm waiting till the end, a month to go now

I'll get another scan after baby is born and then some kind of treatment. I really wouldn't stress about it too much, quite common. Women won't know and many find out at their scan

I’ve always had a tiny fibroid but it wasn’t a big deal. At my 12 week scan they said I have large fibroid and it’s low lying so I may need csection. I was hoping it would shrink but so far it’s grown and did cause me pain the first few weeks. I’ve developed another one right around my navel and the combination of the two makes my scans really difficult. I’m booked in for extra scans and a consultant appointment to discuss birth.

Thank you lovely ladies I’m so sorry we all share the fibroids! I have just got off the phone to my dr and he said that where mine is situated (he said on my cervix yet my gynaecologist told me it was uterine 😢) but he said it’s not a problem in early stages it will be later done the line where I need to be monitored and looking like a C section. I can’t stop worrying over it all. Thank you all so much for all your reply’s info so relieved to see you are all getting along well and that I hope your babies are all safe with you in your arms soon bless them ❤️

I had one when I had my first son 17 years ago! And nothing happened no complications

8 years later with second pregnancy it had disappeared....

They do love to scare the life out of you in the scans... too much fluid not enough, baby too small, too big etc

I have 2 very healthy kids

I spoke with my dr yesterday morning and he said that I have a small cervical fibroid I thought it was uterine (that’s what I was originally told) and he said it may grow at a faster rate and possibly cause pelvic outlet obstruction for the baby and therefore a Caesarean section would be required. He did also say he thinks it would probably move up as the pregnancy grows but he couldn’t guarantee it,

Is this fibroid worse than the uterine one or are all fibroids the same? I’m just freaking out! Thank you again so much and I hope your all having a lovely day ❤️
