36+4, reduced movements, breech and back to back

The last week has been a bit of a whirlwind, I know people have it far worse but I just feel like everything has gone completely against the grain.

I went to triage at 35+2 with contractions every 5 minutes, I was in triage for about 4 hours on monitoring and they continued to be every 5 minutes, doctor cam and examined and no cervical changes so I went home, the contractions stopped the next morning really randomly and I felt fine apart from being very achy!

I had my midwife appointment at 36w and my fundal height had dropped by just over 2 weeks so was referred for a growth scan.
At the growth scan everything looked fine but was told I was breech and that he would make an appointment for a doctor to call and discuss options.

Doctor called and I booked in for a ECV for Friday coming

On Saturday afternoon at 36+2 I realised I hadn't felt baby fo her usual wriggle routine but thought it was just because I was busy, I monitored myself over the evening at at 8 after she missed her disco hour went to triage, was in triage for 2.5 hours, an hour on the ctg which didn't meet criteria because there was no sign of movement (heart rate was consistent at 120/130) had a walk and spoke to doctor who wanted me to do another CTG, I finally met criteria after 2.5 hours but baby had only moved twice in that whole time so they asked me to come in today.

Today went and criteria was met within the hour but they want me to come in daily till they can get me into the scan. I left at 3pm today but I haven't felt anything since and again she has missed her nightly wiggle.

I can't sleep and feel like something is wrong. Do I just trust in the CTG results I get over the hour or can I push to be monitored for longer?

Phone back and go up to hospital.
You know your baby…
Please do this

Wowcherarestalkingme · 05/09/2021 22:56

Call them. When in doubt, call. Otherwise you will be laid there worrying. They would much rather you called than didn’t

MovingSchmoving · 05/09/2021 22:58

Go back in. Trust your instincts, I was forever in and out with DD1 and it turned out she had got herself into a very awkward position and it sent me into early labour. I kept getting fobbed off as braxton hicks but I knew something wasn’t right. Because I kept pushing they gave me the steroids which meant that when she was born at 36+1 she didn’t need any help with breathing etc.
Just phone and say you are really worried as baby is not moving at all. They will get you to come in I’m almost certain of it.

SinkingSwim · 05/09/2021 22:59

Go in!!! I have been in several times for reduced movements and never felt bad for calling, if you feel that something isn't right then go, the midwives would rather check you over than have anything be wrong. Always trust your gut and tell them if you still don't feel happy after being monitored.

RandomMess · 05/09/2021 23:00

Please go back in.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 05/09/2021 23:02

Go back in

alltheeights · 05/09/2021 23:39

I'm going to go back in, I just feel like we rely on a machine too much, within a half hour period it may pick up her moving but her pattern is completely off, she is barely moving all day even when I try the usual things to wake her (warm bath, cold drinks, sugar etc)

How did it go op?

alltheeights · 06/09/2021 09:38

Still minimal movements but home and just waiting for the ultrasound department to call for another growth scan.

I just want to know why her movements have changed so dramatically it's so worrying

You are right to be concerned and keep going back.

How would you feel about asking to speak to a consultant and considering delivery at 37 weeks?

Almostcooked2021 · 06/09/2021 09:53

You’ve done the right thing. You know your little one best. Be persistent until you get answers. Thinking of you.

RandomMess · 06/09/2021 09:54

Look at the website MAMA mums and midwives academy lots of information on their, it's a charity working with healthcare to eliminate preventable stillbirth in the UK and is more than just "counting the kicks"

alltheeights · 06/09/2021 10:44

I would absolutely hate to have to make the option to have a c-section a lady came in to triage in labour and burst out crying at the thought that I possibly won't be able to deliver naturally

Saying that I don't know how I can go another two weeks with out knowing she's ok, even if she is absolutely fine, if I can't feel her to know, and I imagine currently being breech, back to back and only 37 weeks induction wouldn't be an option it would be a section.

I kind of want to speak to a consultant, I haven't physically spoken to a doctor all the times I have been in with reduced movements the midwife has just spoke to the doctor over the phone for advice and created the plan for me which is so far daily ctg.

My other thought was to request for my ECV to be done sooner (currently booked in for Friday) maybe it's her positioning and my anterior placenta which makes her movements impossible to feel....but then that doesn't explain why the "Dawes Redman" criteria wasn't met with heart rate and movements the other day.

Davies1982 · 06/09/2021 10:50

I think they are more likely to induce than c section anyway if baby is seemingly healthy, because c section prior to 39 weeks is more risky

alltheeights · 06/09/2021 11:18

@Davies1982 Yeah that's what I have read too, so they only way they would induce is if she moved or they were able to move her with ECV before 39 weeks.

I was going to say about position having moved but it seems that the monitoring isn't picking up her movements either.

Sure c-section has it risks but that needs to be weighed up against not knowing what is going on.

I think it is time to insist on speaking to a consultant and saying you are very concerned that things aren't ok and wish to discuss delivery happening soon.

Needingsupportplease · 06/09/2021 16:02

Go back in again. Not to scare you but I had very similar was monitored about 12 times. Scanned twice told baby was fine. I knew she wasn't. She was born with sepsis, she's now a healthy 2 year old but trust your gut. I just knew even though midwives and drs told me she was fine I just knew x

Anon9990 · 06/09/2021 20:21

I hope the scan went well OP

alltheeights · 06/09/2021 22:16

The scan department never called and triage called me to come in at 2 for another ctg....it met criteria dead on 60 minutes, up until the 60 minutes the midwife said that it was because of the movements, then said she wanted me to stay to talk to the doctor anyway.

Doctor was called to an emergency and the midwife changed shifts

The new midwife said there wasn't much point waiting for a doctor they wouldn't do anything or change my plan now so to go home and come back tomorrow.

I was in 6 hours Saturday, 7 hours yesterday and 8 hours today, god knows how long I will be in for tomorrow as they already look busy with appointments.

I’m sorry, you must be sick with worry! I know I would be.
Hopefully tomorrow you get a plan in place and your precious baby is safe in your arms soon enough !
Please keep us up to date x

tobeornottobe1 · 06/09/2021 23:24

Sorry to hear this OP, you must be sick with worry. I had reduced movements in my last pregnancy and the hospital induced me straight away I was 37 weeks. The doctors were very clear that baby having reduced movements is the first sign that things might not be ok, they also informed me that Over 50% of women whom had a still birth reported reduced movements. I'm
Not saying this to scare you but this is your body and your baby, pitch up in triage all night if you have too and demand to see a doctor. Don't be fobbed off!

Houserenoqueen · 06/09/2021 23:24

Hi OP, I would push to see a doctor. This is your baby and you need to do whatever it takes. I didn’t push hard enough even though dd hardly moved, and was fobbed off from person to person. She was born very poorly. I’m sure your baby is fine, but it’s not worth the risk.

tobeornottobe1 · 08/09/2021 23:20

Hey op hope everything is ok x

Bennetgirl · 09/09/2021 08:08

Op this is ridiculous. Each time you don’t feel your baby go in.

It’s scary how fast a situation can change. I can’t believe how’s their treating you.

If your still having a tough time, refuse to leave until you see a dr and you have a set plan.

I hope everything’s ok x
