BFP at 40.... do I need to do anything extra?

That's it really.... just got a BFP (yay!) but am a good few years older than last time.... so feeling extra anxious.... and not yet ready to get any professional advice.... So given I'm now 40, is there anything particular I should be doing? For example, I'm taking the usual folic acid dose; should I be taking higher? Anything else recommended?

Thanks ladies!

Congratulations! I got my bfp a few months before my 40th, haven't done anything differently and things seem to be going well so far! (25 weeks now) Bearing in mind the last time I was pregnant was 7 years ago, I don't feel any different to how I did then, although I would say I've been terrified of things going wrong the whole way through knowing that this is our last chance! I've just been taking a prenatal vitamin everyday and that's it. Hope everything goes well for you x

I had my only child aged 40, so had nothing to compare it with, but if it's the slightest consolation, it was a completely straightforward pregnancy and birth, and my midwife actually commended my fitness on my due date.

I am 40 & was advised to take aspirin daily during this pregnancy- from the leaflet I was given it seems this is advised for mothers 40+ in my area.
I didn’t start it until I saw the consultant after my dating scan though so might be better to check with a medical person first!

Thank you so much for your advice... duly noted! And thank you even more for taking the time to reply and offer reassurance to my neurotic self; that's ever so appreciated. Many congratulations and best wishes Star

Congratulations! As PP said low dose aspirin can be recommended, to be started before 14 weeks if I recall correctly. You will have plenty of time to discuss with your midwife at booking. You may automatically be treated as high risk (depends on the trust and other risk factors) , this usually just means an appointment with the obstetrics team. Near the end they are likely to be more cautious and more likely to recommend earlier delivery/not going beyond term. 40 is really common these days, so your midwife team are likely to be very relaxed about it.
