Hello just wondered if anyone knew the updated info on wether you can have visitors after a planned C section ( including birth partner) ie Mum and dad? And if you could share your experiences of the C section itself and the after care? Did you have your own room and did you leave within 24 hours? Also very vain question did anyone where a little make up during C section for pictures?

Not specific to your hospital but I wore minimal make up during my second non emergency section, so that I wouldn't look shit in photo's afterwards, didn't care so much about in theatre.

I don't think you get your own room in many places for a csection, in a normal ward unless you've gone private and the hospital specifically has rooms for all private patients (here you still don't 100% get a private room if private unless one happens to be free).

I’m not at your hospital; but at mine, there’s no private rooms, and it’s 2-3 days in for a first C-section. They said DH could visit for a few hours a day during visiting hours, but no other visitors are allowed. They’re not expecting that to change until next year, sadly.

I’m not at the same hospital as you, but I was told yesterday after my c section it would be 2/3 hours in recovery room with my partner before I go to the ward and he’ll have to leave. He can then visit 2 hours a day. I’m in for a week after so feeling pretty shitty about it Sad

As all hospitals are doing things differently and changing their policies frequently you'd be better off checking with them, even if someone here has been a patient there recently.

My letter (different trust) says to shower on the morning of C-section but not to use deodorant, body lotion, perfume, nail varnish or make-up.
I've always been told not to wear make-up for any surgical procedure. I suppose you could have eyebrows and lashes tinted if you're bothered but I'm sure you'll look very happy and that will outshine any make-up.

@Garman do you mean you put on make-up after the op for some photos or you just wore it and they didn't mind?

I had an op previously where my hair was in a ponytail and it was annoying at the back of my head (though I was pretty nervous so was probably just something I was focusing on) so I will plait it then put on the lovely theatre cap.

I will also be given those anti blood clot stockings.
They say on the letter don't shave your lady bits as they will do it for infection control purposes so if you're doing any grooming do it a bit in advance.

In my hospital you can ask for a private room if available, it's £180 per night. If I'm only in one night I don't think I'll bother. Probably won't get much sleep anyway.

Not the same hospital as you but;

No visitors except birth partner unfortunately at our place. Not even my other children. It's a bugger as I got the in-laws to visit the first 2 times and then they didn't come and bother me when I got home Blush

Makeup yes, wore some for the planned section. Still looked awful in the photos but never mind!

Yes my hospital is almost entirely private rooms.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 04/09/2021 18:15

@CrasterKipper I was hoping to do that for the in-laws too! Gutted that it won't happen. Who'd have thought I'd ever want visitors in hospital Grin

Garman · 04/09/2021 19:04

I put it on about an hour before surgery because I knew I wouldn't manage it afterwards back in the ward. I wear very light make up though so to be fair they probably didn't even notice I had it on, it was just for me.

Arecklessmanor · 04/09/2021 20:27

So not the full smoky eyes look @Garman Wink

I probably won't bother, I don't plan on showing anyone those first photos except maybe my immediate family who've all seen me looking rough!

Garman · 04/09/2021 20:33

I don't show many people the photos at all, I just looked really tired and ill in photos after my first section which was emergency and just felt/looked more physically like me in photos after my second one.
